1ST oil change

Ive been trying to cross reference the best i can between the years and models. I just cant seem to find the oil level exactly for my setup. My first oil change i replaced with 2 1/2 quarts oil and was getting some serious blow by. Air filter and cover was saturated. I used a turkey bastor and took out about 13 bastor fulls of oil and seemed to help. I just did another oil change and put in only 2 quarts and it was about at the same level as when I basted out oil from my first oil change. Everything I'm reading is telling me that 2 quartz is not nearly enough. Also, I'm not sure if it's related, but when my bike has been running a while and good and hot, it'll idle real low and cut out. I feel like it's over heating. I live in Florida and the temp here is of the charts. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Thats a relief. I may go a few miles on this oil change before doing another oil change, but interested for the next oil change. Now i just need to figure out why my bike all of a sudden idles low and then dies abruptly after riding for 30 mins or so. Thanks for your insight. Its nice to have group that knows the big dog world

If you have a S&S super G. Check the little rubber plugs on top of the carb. They dry rot and crack from the heat. This will definitely make your bike run like crap when it gets warm. Also as mentioned when you drain the oil tank on your ridgeback it only drains the tank. You still will have approximately 22ozs of dirty oil in your crankcase sump. You put fresh oil in the tank and as soon as you start the bike it mixes the dirty oil in the sump with the new oil… if you use a scavenger as suggested it will get the dirty oil out through the oil filter connection and then you have 99.9% fresh oil in your bike. They are definitely worth the $50 bucks.
