06 k9 shuts down

Still having issues with shutting down. Bike starts with no issues. Take it for a spin and after 5 or ten min. I notice minor misfire. When I decelerate I see emerg. Flasher and it stalls. All lights shut off. I quickly place in neutral turn key off and back on and starts up. The more I ride it the worse it gets until I let it rest over night and then it will run longer but does it all over again until it won't go 1/4 mile. I pulled the tank and did visual of harness. I checked for loose coil wires. Battery reads 12.9 with switch off 12.3 with switch on and 14.5 while running. Hand controls seem to operating correctly. Battery leads are tight and applied dielectric grease to connectors going to EHC. Ignition key seems firm while turning. What I have noticed you ride bike steady and then decelerate that's seems to trigger flashers and stall. I have the rip Gen 2 on order and plan on installing that if it ever gets here. Seems to her worse when it warms up . Any help would be appreciated. One more thing..what about ignition module failing.

Your coil or crank sensor could possibly cause your issue. Both can fail when they get hot or be intermittent. Unfortunately when they are intermittent an ohm reading isn't a reliable check. You would need to replace or test with a known good sensor or coil in order to eliminate either as a cause. If the problem is either of these the Gen 2 isn't going to fix it. If you have to bite the bullet start with the crank sensor it's the more likely culprit of the two.

Thank you with the reply. Is sounds a good idea. I'm still gonna put the gen two in if I ever get it.

So you don't believe it could be the Ignition module possibly getting hot?
Ignition module should be under the seat. Ur issues do sound heat related. As Mike said, crank sensor, its the cheap n easy option. Sounds like the culprit to me. On the older bikes they used a cam sensor that would bomb out due to the heat. Second, ck ur coil for cracks. This can signal a bad coil. Start with cheap first tho.

Ohhh hell..guess I will buy coil and cam sensor. Thanks..I bet they come in before the gen 2

Ok this morning I went and removed cam sensor and wiped the oil off and reinstalled it. Bike seemed to run better. I pulled over and let it idle a few minutes. When I engaged front brake it stalled. Hmm I start it up and all better. Rode for another 2 minutes to get gas and 2 minutes later just when I got back it stalled with emergency flashers and horn honking and stalled. I restarted it .ignition module light red is on with yellow and blue flashing.i think that's correct. The EHC red light is on and constant.

Then when I was pulling up I lightly tapped front brake and emerg flasher came on along with horn and stalled. Noticed ignition module light off and EHC red light on and went off shortly later.

Do you have an EHC light on when you first turn the key on? If so which one ? They are fault lights and would give you a place to start looking for a short. Since you seem to be seeing a correlation between the shutdown and the front brake lever I would check the wires like Mickeetwo said. You could disconnect the lights and ride in a safe area using hand signals to see if the problem goes away.

I pinched the wire going to the license plate once when I replaced the rear tire. It was grounding out against the frame. When I done it the lights would flash and horn would sound. The bike would die also. Make sure there’s not a wire grounding out some where.
I want to thank everyone for Is your responses and help. Having an intermittent problem is so frustrating But I have learned a lot.. The problem is Fixed and I have everyone to thank. Well this is what happened. When the bike shut down I pulled the seat off And there was no blue light on the electronic Ignition module and only the red light on the EHC. So with everyone's help I realized all power was shut down. So I decided to go into the right hand control. Never done that before so that was enlightening. I removed the PCB and my visual inspection I was able to see a small amount of white powder and Corrosion around one screw. I reinstalled the PCB leaving that one screw out. Long story short it fixed the issue. Totally unbelievable!!!.so now I will order that PCB. I would just leave it alone but when I paid someone to fix light issue there is other damage to that pcb and now for some reason the connector coming from handlebars is way loose and connector is somewhat broke. Guess I will see if I'm able to pull that connector out more. Thanks again everyone

Glad to hear you found it, man I hate electrical problems.

Great troubleshooting! Glad u figured it out! :chopper:

EDIT: Before installing the new board, do yourself a favor and shoot it with some marine conformal coating. This will waterproof and protect from corrosion in the future.
