I think you could easily get the bike cheaper. I've seen newer K9's go for cheaper. is the bike at a dealer or is it private party sale.

yeah I was seeing choppers going for 15,000....the ridgeback is really nice....there's one in the swap meet section on here going for 16,999 with lots of goodies on her...this one I looked at is STOCK......1700 miles...but do you think it is worth waiting for a good deal on a K9???....how long can you go on the ridgeback...I like it because it stretches me out nicly...but concerned about the Hardtail....here's my riding per day-week - back and forth to work 80 miles rouond trip, and then just small weekend riding maybe 50-100 miles. I have kids so I'm limited to riding....and I go to Myrtle beach 2-3 times a year...what's ya'll think???...THANKS MUCH....RED

well i see you have a road glide, so i would opt for a new 07 or 08 K9 OR MASTIFF,,,there are HUGE rebates right now. thats alot of riding, remember i live in ohio where the roads SUCK ...i have 3500 miles on mine. on smooth roads the ridgeback can be ridden all day,

yup have the road glide...thinking of seeling if I go with the dog. Can't afford both...And I really like the K9 and Ridgeback...I'm in Maryland and the roads are pretty good here....the ridgeback just sits me good with no modifications but I can always get extentions on the K9, I could also do that on a BD chopper as well....seams they might handle better.......yeah your right on the deals right now...GREAT time for buying....RED

Sllllllllllooooooooowwwwwwwww Doooooooooowwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnn!

Take your time and buy the RIGHT bike. Ride as many as you can. It is very easy to get all geeked out on a bike that you think is a good deal and you become worried you will lose it.

We are near the end of riding season in many areas and you will see more and more bikes at lower prices in the next couple of months.

Everyone on here has a preference and you will as well WHEN you find the right bike for you. But you need to experience them to know.

Good luck

I have rode my ridgeback 400 miles in one day with the wife on the back!!!

Got off and was ready to go further!!!

Not much ride quality difference between the two. I have rode my friends BDM Chopper and if you hit a decent size bump it feels the same as the ridged seens how there is only 1.5" of suspension travel on the soft tail bikes.

WOW....400 miles at once on the ridgeback...awesome...COOL man...
I rode both an 08- K9 and 08 Ridgeback in Myrtle beach at the spring rally. I found not much difference between the 2 as far as suspension. Liked them both...the K9 did seam to keep you supported in the pocket more..where the ridgeback you had to hold on a little more being lower in the cock pitt..lol...both are awesome bikes.....

Man I'll tell you I went to my local BD dealer and the guy kind of ripped the quality of the BD's compared to the Iron Hourse's and others...But I didn't like those as much...I still like the Dogs for the money and what your getting.....

Well "mcgroom" I sure will be taking my time...all I know is that my R. Glide is great and all....but just not me....I luv the down in behind chopper feel that the Ridgeback and K9 give me....plus the look....and your right there's always another bike if you don't get that one....learned that long ago...thanks to my Father when showing me about car shopping...lol...

Stealers will try and sell what ever they are deepest into at that time. Or maybe they are unloading them to reduce their risk if Iron Horse goes completely belly up.

Regardless, it has been stated many times on the site that there are inherant issues with all high end customs. It is part of the price of owning what everyone else wants to own. Nothing in my opinion to be overly concerned with.

Keep asking questions though, no better source for your answers than this web site when it comes to BDM's.

Even before AIH went belly up, a friend of mine here in town has a Texas Chopper and we swapped bikes for a ride. He went the next weekend to see what deal they would do on a trade in!! He hated his AIH Soft tail compared to my Ridgeback!!!

Red, 19k for an 05 would have been ok a couple of months ago, but this time of the year, its not that great, especially for no warranty coverage.

If you are still interested in an 05, or even 06, have someone who knows the BDM proprietary 117 S&S take a good close look at the top ends (especially the front cyl) and make sure that there is no premature wear.

My bike, barely broken in with only 800 miles on it, started blowing smoke and had enough wear to resemble a 20,000 mile engine. Combination of bad rocker boxes, and weak springs and rockers, along with a poor oil sending unit seemed to be the deadly combination.

Wow....so what happened with your bike???.....is this true with all 05's and 06's???....I'm learning about big dogs....I have had 5 Harleys in the past 3 years and know them pretty damn well now....
I think I'm going to lean towards a K9 or Chopper just to get the softail...
but this ridgeback is the cleanest lookinig BD I have ever seen so far....

All 05's and early 06's have the inferior top ends. There are many discussions about this already out here. Just do a search on "TP Rocker Boxes".

Regarding my bike? It is going on week 4 at the shop, due to the heads still sitting in line at the machine shop waiting for an overhaul. All the rest of the parts are ready to go, its just the damn wait for the machinist to get thru the lineup of all the Sturgis hogs that lost their motors.

(I bought it 'new' off the showfloor at the end of July). Have only had it at home for 2 of the 6 weeks since.

Actually getting ready to place a call to BDM customer service today to let them know just how pleased I am that a 'new' motor went to hell in 800 miles. I didn't even hit the limiter once, so the ECM says.

Damn....ok now your scaring me...lol...I'll take a look at the threads to this issue...thanks for sharing....:)...If this will happen, I take it that if it does it happens early in the motors life???....

Thanks,

Well, I guess I will chime in about my 05 Ridgeback. It also is going on week four in the shop. My warranty is expired, of couse, so I took it to the guy that built my Street Glide and did a jam-up job. I paid fourteen five for it, and I knew it had some issues. I'm having the rocker boxes, rocker arms, valve springs, and pushrods relaced. It had 1100 miles on it when I got it, I assume that the speedo has always worked. The pushrods were ordered 3.5 weeks ago and just came in today, hopefully I will be back riding next week. Beyond that, I would rather ride it than the HD, look forward to riding to Biketoberfest!:whoop:
