Damn....ok now your scaring me...lol...I'll take a look at the threads to this issue...thanks for sharing....:)...If this will happen, I take it that if it does it happens early in the motors life???....

Thanks,
RED
You know Red...... I follow this thread to see how it progressing and all I hear is how awful the 05 and 06 models are.
Well I have to tell you that I have the EARLIEST model 05 Chopper (#29) purchased in Oct 04 and have about 56,000 miles on it.
No motor problems what so ever and still logging on hte miles.
Members here bitch about the 05 and 06's but many other members have thorsands of miles on them without problems.

Hey Red just to add my .2 cents in. I've had my 05 Ridgeback since May of that year. The ONLY problems I have had with it is chrome peeling, which BDM took care of for me twice. The second time was well after the chrome warranty was expired. Most of the guys I ride with have dressers and I keep up with them just fine. Last weekend rode down to Daytona for the day, put a little more than 400 miles on the bike. I was a little stiff at the end of the day but nothing the first jack and coke didn't take care of. I do have to admit that passengers start to squirm around after about 100 miles or so. But don't let anyone else influence you on these bikes, ride as many as you can, when you find the one you want at the price you are willing to spend, there you are. Good luck.

I have an 05 ridgeback and wouldn't trade it for the world. The few issues I have had BDM has mostly covered, even though the bike was out of warrantee.

OK here we go. I have the '05 as well. Best thing you can do if it has not been done is to yank out the restrictor plates. This will "wake" it up, so to speak. I went into the engine early on mine ( 1500 miles) and had some mods performed and it now runs like a scalded ape. I had a guy pull up beside me in MB during the rally last year with a Fat Boy and wanted to play around. I do know him and he has sunk a bunch of $$$$ into the engine and heads. He showered down and so did I and I was pulling him pretty good until he sprayed me. After that he went by me in a flash. All in all I would do it again, The bike has had it's moments but hey, that's the chopper life right. If you want to buy mine I will sell it at a very fair price. I have been thinking of getting another one anyway.. Good luck to you on your decision, be prepared for alot of attention at traffic lights. I had 2 college girls titty flash me at a stoplight with my wife and kids behind me in the Tahoe. It doesn't happen alot but it has happened a few times. Take Care

Yes, read the forums, lots of folks have had no issues with their 05/06 BDM's also.

If you buy used, and you are not an accomplished wrench, please do the diligent thing and have a trusted Tech check it out before you buy. This goes for cars, boats and airplanes also. Do not blindly buy anything with a motor, specially an airplane.

See ya

wow thanks for all the info, advice and stories.....this website and the people in it ROCK!!!....thank you, thank you....luven it!!!

I think I have made up my mind to go with a used 07-08 K9....I think coming off a road glide that I will be better off with the softail....And staying with 07 or newer...to hopfully stay away from major issues...but also want a cheap price..."of course.." And I will ride a few before making a dicision also....So onward and upward...

The ridgeback I was looking at is an 06....perfect condition as far as I could see...I test rode it around the block a few times and it was really nice awesome bike...It's the black with Betty Page Grafics...Beautifull bike. the owner is very nice and has taken very good care of it....He wants close to high 18 to 19's for it...But I want to ride the K9 before I commit to this one....
And I have been seeing 07 K9's for low 20's and even in the 18's on certian websites...So taking all your advice and taking my time and enjoying the hunt...

THANKS, ALL GOOD ADVICE from you guys....THANKS MUCH...will keep you all posted on this......

Good Post!

Red,
I'm like you. I've got a Harley (nine years now-same one) and am looking at Big Dog, which is why I joined this forum. My Wide Glide is good for about an hour and up to 70 mph. At 80+ it develops a "weave" from the rubber mount drive train. So, I don't do that - besides, the pistons are just hammering away over 70. Not pleasant if you're sober.

I recently came across a review of the Ridgeback that said, "It is eeerily smooth at 75 mph." That has about sold me. I do LOVE the looks of the Ridgeback. And, our roads are pretty darn wonderful here in Washington state!
