I guess i need to turn some wrenches

I was never happy with the placement of the fuel filter I put on the bike after the carb rebuild. Now and then I'd have symptoms of fuel starvation and almost didn't get it back home one time lol Sometimes it'd flow like a champ, sometimes, not so much. I think I'm going to have to just buy a Pingel filter and mount it just after the petcock so I have as few bends/curves in the fuel hose as possible so I don't have anymore fuel starvation issues and be done with it. It probably wouldn't hurt to pull the petcock too and clean the crud out of it that is surely in it from the inevitable tank liner crumbling away.

Is it just a simple screw on process on the petcock or is there fancy trickery involved that'll throw me for a loop?

The screen on the petcock needs to be clean. On my '02 the tank liner was flaking off (common problem). Removed the tank and re-lined it. Installed a Pingel in line filter. Put on new fuel line (cheap insurance). Tank not venting can also cause fuel starvation. Helps to go through S&S adjustment procedure again.

No, mine is a 06.
Ok, as far as I can tell I think it's the same petcock. Did you use any type of sealant on the threads? I ordered some parts from Curtis and he said no sealant is needed as it has a teflon seal on it, as long as it's in good shape it's supposed to just go right back on. Best I can guess is ya just screw it back on once you're done cleaning it.

I didnt use any thread tape or sealant. I just screwed it in and stopped where I needed the fuel line to be.

I just went down to start draining the tank into a 5 gal fuel jug and it was taking FOREVERRRRRRR lol I'm going to work on it some more next time but I did take a peek and there is something coming out from the thread area, looks like some dried crusty stuff so maybe someone used some pipe thread sealant on it after having had it off in the past. The petcock appears to be 2 pieces, the nut that threads into the tank and the selector switch that threads into the nut.

A suggestion. If you are also going to replace the fuel lines, use the the type for "fuel injected" cars. It is a bit stronger than the carburetor type of fuel line....
