One of the things I specifically looked at was all the reviews, several thousand and it included many from cold weather usages and regions and folks using them in snowmobiles. The BMS should manage any condition.

Yes the BMS should handle it but there are times when they don't. I don't state the above to scare folks away from lithium. I love them. It is simply a word of caution as this is the third incident I've heard about this happening. All the incidents were different manufacturers also.

I decided to go for the NOCO- NLP20. It had a list price of $180 at AutoZone. After a 20% off CYBERDEAL code from Autozone and tax total came to $153 if anyone is interested.
I will come back with a review after I install it. Thanks to jwooky for helping me make the decision

Well I say use a good charger/maintainer/desufator on the battery. Like the Battery Minder Plus. Keeps your battery up to par and no worries about overcharging or a sulfated battery.

Agree with awg and I also use a timer so the battery gets 1 hr a day.

Good info in terms of using a regular trickle charger on a lithium battery but that is definitely not the only difference.
If you own a lithium battery you would be wise to buy a quality smart Lithium charger.
The smart lithium chargers keep the cells balanced and optimized which will extend the life of the battery by a couple of years at least under normal operating parameters.

I’ve had my Braille B2015 AGM for about 10 years now. Always on a Genius 1100 Charger. I think I’ve been lucky and they are expensive at $209.99 on their website.

We keep coming up with these threads about batteries. I'm not going to say anything about the lithium batteries cuz I have no experience with them. But I will say, why fight or argue about what we know works. I have a bike in my shop right now that had an off-brand battery in it. I don't know if the battery sorted out the voltage regulator, or the voltage regulator shorted out the battery. But it cost him dearly, new EHC, and of course a new Deka battery, speedometer speed sensor, tack ring, front brake light switch, and we'll find out soon enough what other component that that'll go bad in the near future, that were weakened, by pumping ac voltage to the system. This is the third time I've run into this.
If you are still running your original charging system, I highly recommend you change it out before it cost you thousands of dollars like this guy.

I bought Curtis's top lithium battery 4 or 5 years ago and the correct charger. I had a hard time turning the worked motor over for any length of time (made sure compression releases worked correctly) before the amp drop was too much, and started slowing down. Turns over now very easy. Still going strong. Costs bucks but I wanted maximum cranking power and got it. My other Harleys are regular batteries no problem. 900CCA.

When you say off brand are you referring to a lithium ion battery? There was a lithium ion in my ‘04 ridgeback when I bought it from Dispatch (Wayne). Bike cranked right up with it. But I was worried about the overcharging if the vr were to go bad. Runs great on a Deka. fwiw.

I was picking up my mess and fixing to roll the bike off the rack, when I noticed that the old circuit breaker was missing the reset button.

So I popped it apart, it had gotten so hot that it warped it to where the contacts aren't touching anymore,.


That means it didn't pop immediately. Had them contacts stuck, it probably would have cought the bike on fire

This part number crossed over to the Deka, so I guess I'm ok, these little shits weigh 20lbs.
