Hola fellow BD owners. So I got my K9 one year ago in September. The bike had about 3200 miles on it when I bought it and was well kept from the previous owner. Now the bike has about 3500 miles on it. About a week ago the bike appears to have broken a clutch cable. The cable is still attached to the hand control. So, I'm thinking the cable broke at the clutch housing itself. Here are a couple of questions I am hoping someone out there might have some experience with, WTF a clutch cable breaks with 3500 miles on it? Could there be something unique to these bikes that might cause something like a clutch cable to go out this prematurely? Like I said, the bike was not abused and was kept in a climate-controlled garage. Hardly ever ridden obviously so this being a problem right now is very weird to me. Second question - if its not the cable itself - what could it be? Thanks all for any help!

Yes, at the hand grip there is a unnatural bend in the clutch cable when it's pulled. Plus the fact that's the original cable which wasn't really the top quality when they were put in there. Get with Eric at HDM he'll get you a quality cable

Yeah, as Mr. Wright said, the original cables didn't seem to be the best quality. My original cable lasted about 3 years til it snapped down at the actuator. Barnett made my next cable. It lasted about 10 years til it started fraying at the clutch lever, which is acceptable.

Clutch cables NEED to be lubricated as a maintenance issue. IMO, every 6 moths or 12 months...once they dry out, no matter WHAT brand you put in, they will break...doesn't matter how many miles, it matters how long it has been SITTING or the cable has been installed and NOT lubricated!
