+10 tubes w/guts

Good afternoon,
I purchased some +10” fork tubes with the guts from you, for my 04 BD Chopper. I pulled the forks and took them to certified HD tech to install. It started as fork seals leaking but my tech found gouges in my old tubes below the seals. That was the reason for me ordering the tubes with new internals after my order for new seal kits w/ all nee clips & bushings. After he did his part I reinstalled the front end and torqued everything to specs. The concern I have is the forks will only compress about 2” under a load. When I riding at about 20mph and apply my front brake they compress about 2” and I can not get anymore travel before the brake locks up. My original forks would compress much farther and road much softer/smoother. These only compress when I grab a handful of frt brake but want to deflect more on bumps and our crappy roads compared to what it road like before replacing everything.
The tech that swapped the tubes said all he can think of is maybe the new springs are different (heavier) than the original springs that were replaced?
Can you offer any help with this, thank you.

Springs are the same rate as original, but obviously newer so a probably a little tighter feeling. 2" at 20mph seems normal, do you know what fork oil weight you had in there before?

I suspect you went with 30w this time? If you really prefer to soften it then just drain it and put in 20w. I know some guys use 20w, personally I think it's too soft but its rider preference.

Now that was a good question that I should have ask when I spoke with my tech today. Thank you.
I’ll ask and post what weight is in my forks now.

You are 100% correct about the oil. It’s 30wt. Today was the first nice day since I but her back together so I may ride it a bit and see how I like the feel. My main concern was the difference in the feel of the old vs new, so I wanted to ask before I did some damage.

Now if I can get this super G jetted right, I’lll be back out enjoying her. it’s way on the rich side.
runs a little flat tru the midrange when I roll on it and it wants to load up at idle for traffic lights. I figure if I can gain enough knowledge here I’ll work on it but if super G carbs are the same voodoo as the VV of old, then I’ll just adjust myself to what the bike needs. . Thanks for the help

My 2cents. Make sure you have no intake or exhaust gasket leaks before you start jetting your bike. No voodoo with the super G. :oldlaugh:

This pdf will help you adj and if needed jet your carb. Check on the top of your carb for a small black rubber cap that can crack and let in extra unwanted air that will screw with your adjustments.
