Hi all
I was hoping somebody might know what cam I have in my 2005 mastiff with a 117 cube S&S, i have only just got the bike and sent the engine number to S&S, they could only tell me the bore and stroke and that it was delivered with an super E carb, it now has a super G and a tag on the top with xxx modified on it, as the carb has been changed I thought whoever done it may have made some other changes (But not that optimistic as it still has the TP rocker boxes)

I have had a search through the forums and done a google search but have not found any information on the numbers, the numbers are
30-4000 UK7589-04, smaller numbers 3001GR.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

EPA cam. The average owners usually replace that cam with a S&S .585" cam, or if the heads are coming off, a S&S .600" cam. Valve springs are needed for the increased lift of the .600" cam. Good time to check valve guide wear when the heads are off, and get rid of the EPA power killing mods.

Thanks everybody, the next thing to figure our is if I have the smaller valve heads that I have read about, but I am assuming the only real way to check that is remove the heads.

The intake valves on the bdm 117's are smaller than crate engines and heads directly from S&S, but the smaller valve is uniform across the bdm 117's. According to John Sachs, he has never seen anything other than 1.94" intake valves in the bdm 117 heads, and he has done a shitpile of them.

Thanks very much, that solves that one

Thanks for that, I have read a lot about the .585 Vs .600 cam, I think for now I will just go with the .585 and enjoy the bike for a little while before I get a bit more serious, (bike has about 8,000 miles on it) it has the TP rocker boxes so I think at some stage I am going to have to pull it down and check the alignment issue using the great guide that Curtis has put on the wild steed worx site.
If I was in the US it would be a no brainer to just send them to you and get it sorted, but I live in the northern end of Australia (about 1000 miles to the nearest capital city) so I am just doing as much research as I can on the issues particular to the Big Dog assembled 117 and working out where I can find the parts required and a decent place to get the head work done.
Any input is greatly appreciated

Very nice, I would have preferred a darker colour myself, but the silver is growing on me, the 05’s do have a nice style to them
