Ok, 04 BD has done this twice. New battery and new hand controls. Starter continues to run after bike starts and continue to turn starter after I turn bike off. Have to pull neg cable off battery to stop starter from turning

Any thoughts?

Benedix in the starting is sticking ....another words the contacts are sticking and making it keep turning over....need to take the 3 bolts out of the end of the starter and inspect the internals....i would about guess the spring on the end of the plunger is broke and not pushing the plunger back causing it to continue to keep running

Also i would look into putting a slam button on the end of the starter...i do these on all bikes just incase starter button doesnt work or the battery gets too low u can push the plunger in to get it started and get home

I've also had one of the adjustable slam buttons cause the starter to engage. Adjusting nut backed off going down the road and starter started spinning!

Another potential possibility for this guy as well if he has one of the adjustable slam buttons

Very true...ive adjusted them little to tight before and caused that to happen...back before the slam button i would drill a 1/8 hole in the end of the cover and cared me a piece of stainless tig rod in my wallet to start them...

04's and older bikes also had a solenoid module that sat on top of the battery. When mine went bad the starter would engage going down the road. It's a little rectangular box. Had three wires coming out of it.

I think that starter relay was only on the 03. Haven't seen one on an 02 or 04, unless it was a carry over model
