How to replace electric system with Motogadget m-unit

Energy One

Rereading the original post... if you gonna go bare bones old skool, you most likely will get new hand controls too? Then hardwire might be a good solution. Heck skip the start button too and get a plunger to solenoid. That would be minimalistic approach Sure you would miss the alarm and remote from M-Unit blue, but system would be solid and easy to fix by anyone would something go wrong on road. On my opinion Axels system and new harness doesn’t make much sense financially if you not gonna use the functions... doesn’t give alarm and remote either.

Thank you guys for your answers.
The main quistion for me now, is how to properly connect my destroyed harness of ignition modle to cam sensor and to ignition coil.

At this picture i saw that is posible to use m-unit with thunderheart ignition, but i also saw two relays (what for).
And i afraid of this message from that thread:
"The M unit would be fine as long as the starter circuit is only used to trigger a relay for the starter. I did not do that and the starter circuit killed my M unit."

From Motogadget page:
“8.8.1 Special features
START output
Starters with integrated solenoid (magnetic switch) with a current flow of maximum 30A (e.g. Valeo, Bosch, Harley Davidson) are connected by using two connection cables with 2.5mm2 cross-section to the m.unit’s two START output terminals.
All starters with separate starter relays (e.g. Japanese models) must continue to be operated using the original starter relay. In this case, the START output is connected to the relay which switches the actual cranking current (>100A). On some vehicles, this starter relay is switched using a second relay for protection of the start pushbutton. This second relay can be dispensed with.”
I think they used to have 20 A capacity in older models.
30 A should be enough for our solenoids...
If I’m wrong, I bet I will be corrected pretty soon

Hi guys, again.

So while i am waiting my new starter and m-unit, i decided to draw a diagram for my new wiring.

I used a good diagram for 2004 big dogs and deleted some harness for turn signal and gauges. Later i will add an m-unit.

Help me to understand how i need to connect battery, starter, ignition module and maybe relays.

Here some questions on diagram

And this is an example what i finaly want to get

The revival diagram looks pretty good except our solenoid is with starter. Starter ground I would take straight to battery - . starter + goes from battery to solenoid just like it is now. I assume you have ignition module still on bike, leave it alone and connect it-as in Revival cycle diagram. I would assume Thunderhart has a diagram on their page too....
what those two relays on pic are, I don’t know. Other most likely is a starter relay (gives power to solenoid). New shouldn’t need that but I would confirm that from motogadget.
I am not an electrician and will not take any responsibility of my sayings... we have some whom should understand that shit way better than I ever will, hope they step in...
Oh yeah, remember the starter uses shitload of energy so you need proper cables... like the ones you have now with Wires Plus if you choose to replace those.

Mr. Wright

Knows some things

On this schematic, it says it a relay. Even with all my electronic schooling, it still gave me a head ache looking for it. I can only find that symbol on Big Dog schematics. The boxes, I believe are just junctions.

I know we all have our reasons for doing things but if you are getting rid of the BDM controls, why not just get the Thunder-Heart Micro-Controller. I was looking on Amazon (maybe you cannot get them in Russia) and they are cheaper than the M-Unit (at least what I see on Amazon) and smaller package.

It comes with all the heat-shrink, the harness and the manual has everything you need to put together. This is the heart of a lot of the replacement controllers out there and even was used by AIH from 05 on. It's a really nice unit has all the relays built in and auto-reset.

it's been awhile since I looked at the munit, If memory serves me right he might need to use an AUX line to power the thunderheart ignition module.

I think 30amp is enough surprisingly, think that's what other units have for the starter.

The fact is that m-unit is a little more modern than other solutions.
Before i bought it, i did some "research" about what i can install on my big dog.
And m-unit has a lot of good reviews and information about it.

And the last straw to buy m-unit was THE SMARTPHONE STARTING by bluetooth:D, and that is a cool stuff.

P.S. I hope it will works, after i`ll put my hands on it:p.
