Baseline Carb Tuning??

So right before the winter when it got too cold to ride i took the bike out one last time and thought i got the carb tuned to where i wanted it (it was a short ride and pretty cold out). it sat from Nov until now and I am struggling to get it started. Today i went out and it cranks well enough but backfired like an M-80 went off. I kept f-ing with it until i had no juice left on the charge.

Does anyone have baseline adjustments to set the RPM adjustment screw, idle mixture screw and accelerator pump? (as in turn the screws all the way in or halfway out, or some combination etc.)

I am trying to get the carb tuned to S&S recommendations but cant get the bike started and warm enough to do so.
