Installing your CruiseMate

All you need for this is a few basic tools we all should have. Start by removing your right hand mirror, next place a drain hose over your front brake bleeder screw and loosen it (we are going to drain the brake fluid as we will need this to install our CruiseMate on our bench). Loosen the banjo bolt that connects the front brake line to the master cylinder (have some rags to catch the fluid (its silicone so it will NOT damage your paint). Next remove the the controls by loosening and removing the two allen head bolts (be careful as there is a wire connecting the hand control switches) Unplug the connector, remove the two throttle cables (BE CAREFUL TO NOT LOSE THE BRASS FERULES) at the end of the cables there are small brass ferules be sure not to lose these as you remove the cables. I mark at least one cable so I know which half of the controls it goes to. I also removed the switch as a safety precaution (this is optional)

Re-assemble to control as shown and install the drilling jig as shown (One of the bolts on the jig is slightly larger so be sure to check.

Using the drill provided lube it up with WD40 or something similar so the drill bit spins freely in the jig.

This is a view looking down the jig's guide - notice there is a hole there, we are going to enlarge this.

Ok our hole is drilled, remove the jig as we no longer need it.

Time to get out the die-tap to thread our new hole for the CruiseMate

Nice job!! all threaded and ready to re-install our controls.

Don't forget to put some dielectric grease on the connector to waterproof it.

Not having three hands I use a bungy cord to help hold the controls on the handlebar - I also extend the cables and tape the connector (green tape) to make it easier to re-install the throttle cables.

Using the loctite provided, apply to the threads of your CruiseMate and install it into the hole you drilled and tapped. BE CAREFUL AS THERE IS NOT MUCH THREAD MATERIAL ON ONE SIDE OF THE HOLE.

Pretty easy to do, just take your time and read the directions completely (which do not have any photos).

What you need: CruiseMate, DOT 5 Brake Fluid, Di-Electric Grease, WD40 and a set of Allen Wrenches (I like T-Handles).

Nice pics...its easily done without taking the control off the bike which saves the brake bleeding issues for all who are curious. A second set of hands to hold the control though is a must.

Good thought ... She was at work (someone has too) or I would have enlisted her assistance.

Did mine on the bike with no extra hands, took a while, but got er done. Great pics.
Did mine yesterday the same way. I guess if I wasn't so lazy I would have pulled everything off. Hell, I didn't even pull the throttle cables off. :loony:

It's all good and I will be giving it a good test run when I ride up to the ROT Rally. :2thumbs:

Ended up doing my BDM by myself, then he showed up for the HD... both were really easy to do.
