A lot of batteries are in the 285 cca range, I believe Big Dog recommends at least 330 cca correct me if I'm wrong. Even a new battery may not be good enough. When I bought my K9 the owner had just put a new bat in it, was having some issues and looked up the part number and said 285 cca. Same part number with one letter change was the 330 cca. I bought the Throttle X 500 cca

Cleaning my "09 Wolf this afternoon, didn't wash it just polish and rags, running great before went to start it up and wouldn't start without me giving it some gas, then wouldn't idle seem like the idle circuit (if there is one ) is not working. Any ideas? Did not disconnect anything!

Okay I have searched on this site for the last 2 hours. Bike Road great all summer, the weather has been decent the last week in the 50s, when to start bike it will kick over but cuts out. Hazard flashing lights come on, check engine light comes on, while trying to start it and puffs of smoke come out of the air cleaner. Using non ethanol gas, batteries charged, plugs are good change them anyway just to double-check. Any help would be greatly appreciated

i went thru 3 different batteries in 1 year, dont buy any auto parts store batteries or batteries plus, batteries, i ended up buying a harley battery and now it has lasted over the 3.5 months that the other batteries would last.

Sorry to tell you but my 07 k9 with only 4000 miles on it did the same thing one day in my garage time for a new ehc if it was the battery the signals would flash along with horn blowing, you could try disconnecting the battery and holding the pos and beg terminals together to reset the ehc but I'm 99% on it being the ehc I hope I'm wrong

I went through 3 batteries in one year too. But after the 3rd battery, that's when I started having more issues. It all started from the EHC. I replaced my EHC with the RIP gen 2 from Big Dog yesterday.

Thanks, Once I hooked up the battery after I installed the rip kit, it fired up with no hesitation whats so ever. Everything works perfect now. Only issue was the wiring that comes with the rip kit are a bit to long.

I so agree. It just sucks that all these big dogs that are out there still have the old EHC and might have issues and not know what the hell is going on.

Knock on wood, my 07 K9 still has the original ehc with air ride functions. I bought an esc as a spare and still have it on the shelf. I think I paid 575 or so plus another 100 for the air ride controls to function as original. I don't think the RIP kits have air ride function. You have to mount a 3 way toggle switch somewhere and as fragile as the side covers are, I didn't want to drill a 3/8 inch hole in it to mount the switch.

I have a 2008 K9 with efi, I'm hoping I can get help with a issue that I'm having. Sometimes when riding, the engine shut down and it seems the fuel pump shuts down. When I pull over to restart, the fuel pump doesn't start back up, sometime it does, sometime it may take a couple minutes. So thinking it was the fuel pump,I have it replace with a new one. That didn't help, it still does it, so needless to say it sets in my garage like a paperweight. Could this be a EHC issue? Just want to get some feedback before I purchase a new EHC. I love the bike, but need to get this issue squared away.

Thanks.,Larry

How are you Larry? I believe it is your EHC, mine started with different problems then completely died on me. This is my 5th BD and from what it sounds like, your EHC is going out. I bet if you replaced it the problem will be fixed. If you want to keep your BD I suggest you change out the EHC.

Had mine do something similar and it was a bad connection on the battery. Check everything is tight and battery is good.
Does it happen on smooth road or maybe a bump -- you could have a short shutting it down and then waiting for the system to reset.
When you pull over do you turn key off or just try the run/off switch and start button?
What area of the country are you in -- Might be one of us is near by and can help you out.

Think I'm having the same problem I got plenty of volts on the battery but it doesn't want to crank over cranks once and then stops. Was pretty easy to buy and install the r R.I.P kit..?

Hey Willy, Actually it was easy to install. I bought the one from Big Dog. It takes about an hour to install. I suggest getting the one from big dog, customer service is always there and they normally have them in stock, other places don't have them in stock.
