Do you have a single fire coil or dual fire coilI've been looking for a thread like this. I have a 2003 Pitbull that I want to put a tach on. I see that this one has three wires; are those three wires all that is involved in installing a tach? Is there no cable or anything else? I'll be finding an after market tach I'm sure so do I need to look for something special there?
How do I tell? I'm new to all of this but I managed to disassemble my primary and clutch, fix it with a dremel and get it back together fine the other day so I think I'm learning quick.Do you have a single fire coil or dual fire coil

I have that diagram. I guess three wires means three studs? Is that what we are looking at; the places where the wires connect?
Thank you, I understand how it works now. It reads RPM from the ignition rather than the engine itself so it is all electric and I just have to tie into that. I should be able to figure this out. That is a stock dual fire coil. If you look at the coil you have 2 wires (12V, and a trigger) it fires front and rear at the same time. In a single fire there are 3, 12V and a trigger for the front and a trigger for the rear. For the Tach, there are 3 wires, +12V, GND, and the signal from the ignition module (Green wire from the first pic). Look around under the tank, there might actually be a pigtail there for a Tach.
