well i was riding today, and i got pulled over by a cop and when i went to shut the key off i couldnt,it was gone,so i went home got my other key and noticed it pulls out easliy.. what the hell? happen to anybody else?

Mine did that to me a few years ago. I had the dealer put in a new ignition cylinder(with new keys) and it solved the problem. Apparently it was an issue with quite a few bikes.

Until you get it fixed, take the key out after you start it to prevent losing it.

Most of us have the key on a carabiner which we hook onto the plug wire for this reason. Mine has been screwed up for months, but I don't loose the key this way.

take key out

 I turn the key to the on position, then take it out and put it in a zipped pocket in my jacket. When I stop, I put the key back in and turn it off. Works every time. 2002 Mastiff. Don't know if you can do that on later models. now, if I can only remember which pocket I put that damn key in...

I was riding with my buddy pig pen last summer, his fell out of his 03 Pitbull, he used my k9 key to restart his bike. He then took my key out while it was running and gave it back to me so I could start my bike. He never has to worry about a key when we ride together. He can run his bike without a key, go figure.

The simplest fix I use is to attach a short loop of cord, black leather strip, etc. to the key, then simply run the loop around the plug wire and the key through the loop. With this, the key can't be lost if it falls out and you simply unloop the key from the plug wire when you get off. Best not to add any weight or metal attachments to the key that will vibrate around.

same thing happened to me when me and my bro were hot dogging around. Went to put in some gas and my frickn key was gone, which my buddy got a kick out of . Had to go back home and kennel the dog. I had to put my house key in it to get it to the off position, then I couldn't get it back to the on position. So i pulled my coil cover and brought it to a locksmith to have it re-fitted. Then ordered up a new cylinder which came with 2 new keys. No worries since

Yeah ... lost my original key on a ride down to Strokers a year back. Luckily they had a setup for my chopper there and did a warranty replacement for me on the spot. Seems a few of the bikes had trouble with the key vibrating out (or even simply pulling out with minimal effort).

Now I keep an extra on me at all times just to be safe. Using a fob/clip is the safest bet though ( Gas :2thumbs: )
