well i was cleaning my bike today and when i got to the battery cover on the primary side it was loose, after further inspection i seen it was cracked,so i figured it was from vibration,so i pulled the seat off and took the cover off,to later find the horn nut backed off and was daggaling in there, also the wires pulled out of the horn,so further inspection i found that all the rubber wellnuts that hold everything together in there were all hand tight or totally loose, later i also found that the freakin ehc bolts on the bottom of the ehc were sheered off and pulled right out of the ehc,now thats just sitting in there without mounts, what the hell??? this bike is a 05 ridgeback and had 500miles when i bought it used,it ran fine then bigdog told me to get it serviced cause there records showed it never had the first service,so i brought it to my dealer a month ago with 580miles to get all recalls done and service done(i wont mention there name yet, wait to see if they make good for it) and the i was actully happy with there service, but less then 200miles later,i find this crap,so i called them and first they said there was a recall on those rubber nuts, then he says im outa warranty, then he says it had nothing to do with there work?? well hello stop making excuses here,so he said they were never in there only to put the new vr recall fuse in (which in my opinion is a shambo install with only 1 nut and bolt on it to hold it in place but anyway) so i said to him well i had a service done,he says yeah but we dont check bolts or anything like that,so he said bring it up to him and he will see if bd will cover it or he said i will have to,i said yeah sure, now i just looked in my manual and it shows what should be done on the first 500 miles service and it states "CHECK ALL ELECTRONICS AND SWITCHES" ALSO "CHECKED ALL BOLTS EXCEPT FOR THE HEAD BOLTS" go figure....i mean are they trying to screw me? what do you guys think? any help is appreciated, ill be dropping it off tommorow..thanks jim

Seems kind of fucked to me. If they say there was a service notice/recall on the parts they should have checked them while under warranty. My EHC is held in place by nylon zip ties in a cheesey mount that kind of foats around (2003 model). My opinion aint worth much but if they can tell you about it they should have checked it regaurdless if they serviced that area of the bike.

Call BDM. I believe there was another member here that got his EHC replaced out of warrenty for the same reason.

Delly, that is why you take the bike in for a 500 service.everything should be touched, esp.common problem/recall & service bulletin items.(side covers/well nuts/horn connections & ehc are all listed as such) so imo yeah, they dropped the ball.@ 500 miles everything is ready for attention.if they make an effort to talk to their warr.reps, they will/should cover those items due to the mileage(or lack there of)thats on the bike.it all depends if the service mgr will do the right thing.after all the dealer gets paid by the factory for warr. so why not make the extra effort!! peace

I had the exact same problem and BDM replaced it. Now my bike randomly quits, no warning, nothing. It's a bit unnerving riding down the freeway and it just quits. I would like my old one back and some Velcro please.

delly,

You indicated that BDM screwed you. Have you spoke to BDM Customer Service directly yourself. From your post it is sounding more and more like the dealer has their head up the dark side.

I would try your best to get ahold of BDM and give them your vin and MFG code and have them pull the history. There was allot of recalls on the 2005 and with as few miles on yours as indicated, it there is a good chance that many of the recall were not done. Recalls that were not done still need to be done and that is a cost for BDM. TSB may or may not be taken care and paid for by BDM. Different animals.

Now not sure if yous applies or not, but not being in there to due any but the VR recall, well that leaves was the EHC relocated done, was the pig tail for the EHC if applicable done, was the Wheels taken apart and have bolts cleaned with proper Loctite and reassemble to proper torque done, headlight new plug done, etc.

On the EHC if nothing else, fill in the spots where the bolts broke with silicon and then put a piece of Industrial Velcro to the bottom and mount (barring that the relocate was done under warranty) and back up with a good tie wrap.

On the cover, pretty sure it is a TSB and not recall, but it should have pins on the top side and not bolts to secure, Those pins go into big rubber type bushing which are supposed to absorbe more vibration and prevent the cracking.

Give the puppy farm a call and get the history and talk to them direct. Without being there, but reading the other post (especially the one of BDM saying the leak on starter is not enough to warranty) makes me questions the dealer.

Also has already indicated if they did a 500 mile service properly, checking bolts is part of it.

Let us know how you make out.

fiber i did talk to amy at bdm, they wont cover it,they will only cover the side covers from the cracks,i do have the bolts that hold the covers on,i did fill the holes with silicone and mounted the ehc with velcro and wire tie, works pretty good, the starter is pissing me off cause bdm has been replacing them for alot of people, and i think the dealer kinda screwed me with there report to them, even know the owner swears he would never do that, but has the power to do it,he wouldnt do that cause he wants my buisness..yeah ok!!! he is pissed cause i put him on the spot about not checking all the bolts like the manual says to do when your at your 500 mile service,he still says im reading that wrong, cause if that was the case he said he would have to take my transmission apart and primary, engine and check those bolts too, what a dick,it even says all bolts EXCEPT THE HEAD BOLTS and i told him that but he has a answer for everything...it says head bolts cause they are internal, where is his common sense?ohn and all recalls were supposly done at service, including the vr fuseable link..

If all of the recalls/service bulletinswere performed, the factory would have a record of it.

As far as checking fasteners, any dealer would know that checking tightness is part of every 500 mile service and every 5000 miles after. There are dealers out there that not only screw you guys, they screw BDM as well.
Inside the primary there are three nuts and two countersunk screws. In the tranny there are 4 bolts (accessable under the top cover) and about 10 bolts and screw in the rocker boxes and they are all accessable without tearing anything down.

Sounds like somebody overtightened your ehc mounting hardware!
What's up with your starter? What is it doing?

dogvet it is seeping oil from the primary, after every ride the next day there is oil on the ground about the size of a quarter..the dealer says the only thing they did under the seat was add the vr fuseable link, with one screw in it,they are useless it took me about 4minutes to drill a another hole and put a screw in the other side of the red vr link..
