Update on Amylulu

Well....I am CANCER FREE!!!!! I had my surgery on May 11 and just got over the 6-week recovery hump! I am still a little sore here and there, but I am getting used to my new reality. I go back to the doctor in August to run scans to make sure that I'm still clean, but I'm optimistic about it.

At my follow-up appointment, the doc said that all of my pathology reports came back negative at the cutting zones and he felt that the cancer was contained in just the bladder. They also said that they removed 38 lymph nodes. He was very positive about everything, so I feel very reassured.

I did have to lose my bladder, though. According to the doctor, my bladder was used to making cancer cells, so there was no saving it. My only option was to have an ileal conduit- also known as a stoma. Because of this, I will have to purchase ostomy supplies for the rest of my life. The costs so far have been about $150-$200 per month. With that said, I want to thank each and every one of you that so generously donated to my cause. It truly has been a lifesaver. I have been stressed and worried about coming up with the money for these supplies and your donation will definitely keep me for at least 5-6 months! It's just amazing and I am so blessed by your generosity!
I truly am so grateful and humbled by your thoughtfulness. Thank you so very much!! Love to all!!

Thanks for the update Amy and we are all happy to help.

I'm sure you have been preoccupied as expected but we had a 10 year BigDogBiker.com Reunion in Wichita and ended up raising the funds after the dinner on Saturday.

Here is a picture for you that you'd probably like to see. Us all lined up for a picture at Big Dog facility.

Losing your bladder does really suck. My dad went thru the same surgery (he also lost a kidney). Anyway he adjusted quickly and a few months after said it's really not as big off deal as he stressed about.
My point: I hope that is the case for you! Is it an adjustment? Yes. A pain to deal with the bag and supplies? Yes
Always having to keep extras with you... in your car, etc.? Yes
A social stigma to get over? Yes
Better than cancer spreading and taking your life? NO!!!!
Best of luck to you.
