Fender struts bolts steered off

You got lucky -- several years ago I had one snap on the road right after doing Tail of the dragon, with full luggage and a passenger.

Chewed up a tire sine the fender cocked sideways, snapped a second on trying to remove the strut. Was in the middle of nowhere, AL.

Ended up snapping a tap in the hole after I got them out (even worse).

Somewhere on here should be my whole diatribe about that trip ( Panama City Beach, Thunder on the Beach 2012)
Yeah.. I tried an easy out and it wasn't budging and that's the kinda steel u don't wanna drill trough.. but I just started with a small bit and worked up until I got close and tried to ease the tap using pb blaster the whole time.. found the sweet spot and was good to go..

I think the heater hose he used was only a few bucks and would definitely be worth doing until your able to get a set of chrome pegs.
I kinda really want to get the revolver full set, but I just replaced the rear ones in summer of 2015, the front ones are original and they have wore down to nothing in a matter of no time.. a little over a year and about 9k miles.. I just don't know what to do.. but I want all of em to match, including toe pegs.. .

I used some devices by a company called Alden -- best bolt removers I've ever used -- I keep a set on the bike tool bag!
http://www.aldn.com/Pages/drillOut.php -- worth their weight in gold but FOLLOW directions about speed! Slow is good!

I've had Strut bolts snap, sissy bar bolts, forward control bolts -- all while riding!

I have the grabit they work okay. Those in the link are a little different Than what I have in my toolbox. The ones I have you have to drill using one side then flip it over, I like this one better wonder if its a new design

I've used the ones you describe with limited success -- the ones in the link work MUCH better and have never failed me as long as you remember to drill slow! I had one I drilled to fast and burned up -- got a new bit and ran it at the proper speed and out came the bolt!

Your lucky. I had that happen to my 06 Mastiff and didn't realize it until the girl on back said her ass was getting hot. Not only did it totally ruin the tire but the fender sat on top and burned the paint off under the seat. Expensive to fix. New tire, paint $800.00, new girlfriend.

I would say you were lucky. Same thing happened to my 06 Mastiff and fender dropped, down on tire and burned the tire and the fender. New tire and paint job. What a paita.
