More Starter Issues

I have an 04 Ridgeback 107 w/compression releases, I replaced the EHC years ago and have had no issues.
I replaced the starter a few months ago with a 2.0 kw unit and all was good until a few weeks ago.
I have replaced the battery cables, cleaned and tightened all grounds, cleaned the solenoid, replaced the battery with a 310 CCA unit.

Here's what happens:
Hit the starter and the solenoid goes into machine gun mode, sometimes the plunger will stay in and the engine turns a few revolutions slowly but not fast enough to produce a good spark to fire the bike. The voltage drops from 12.9v to below 5 and the positive battery cable becomes untouchable hot instantly.
Hit the slam and same issue occurs, maybe turns over a couple of times.
I'm thinking the starter is maybe out of alignment/binding causing a huge power drain which would create the hot cable.

I have tried 3 separate batteries that are all good and the same thing happens each time.
New starter?

Any ideas?

What did you replace the EHC with? Did you go with a New EHC or a different unit.

One thing I would try is run an extra ground cable from the negative post to your starter ground.

Can you hear/feel your compression releases working when you hit start? Unplug the green solenoid wire and hit start button make sure both compression releases are working. You will hear them click and you can put your finger on them to feel them compress down.

EHC to Wires Plus about 3 yrs ago. I'll add another ground, compression releases are fine.
I'm thinking bad starter motor too, I'll pull it and have it tested. Any recommendations of rebuild vs new?

You got an 04..just got with a new 1.75 - 2.0KW starter. Stock unit was 1.8 and with compression releases it's plenty of power.

Guys have had good luck with the Ultima ones you can get new or if you wanna Pony up by a Spyke.

You just bought one a few months ago though shouldn't be bad....

All 04's have the Harley Style Primary. They didn't move to the Baker DSSC until 2005 even if you went with the optional 117 back in 04.

Heres a little big dog Trivia for ya....They did make an RSD bike in 2004. It was the Bulldog, but it still had a Harley Primary Cover.

here is an 04 Bulldog:

Its your battery, it doesn't matter what the label on the battery says 310 CCA or 5000 CCA. The battery needs to maintain at least 12 volts or better to start the bike, if it drops to 5V then you battery is not holding up. Have it load tested, if it passes the load test check you compression releases they may not be working. :2cents:

Take out spark plugs and check how it turns over without them to be sure the compresion reliease valves operates, if still heavy - slowly and have voltage high drop, then remove starter an test it ,I believe it is starter not cables !This is how it works: EHC open compresion reliease valves - closes relay to energise starter solenoid - then solenoid(as electrical magnet) puls the bendix and closes big amp contactor and motor spins,If you have bad bearings armature catch the outer part metal poles, and usually start to burn out windings.
