Is the old battery bad? For kicks try using the one you took out , I'm not familiar with the fi system on big dogs but I know that if my seadoo battery is low or bad it will mess with the fuel injection, just a thought
Ya know how easy it is to replace the battery on these? I might try just that, ya never know.... Funny it ran great for a mile first though, and the sputtering sounds like fuel starvation.....

I just wonder since the bike has been sitting for 6 years If the liner is peeling inside the tank? Once you finally got gas in it just settled it on down?

If you guys have disconnected the battery a few times etc. then you may have corrupted the ecm map! Get a map and download it to your bike after saving the map in your bike now. The best map is the big dog off road map from S&S. If you decide to try that map PM me your phone number and I can walk you through the install and do a few things to the new map to make the bike run better if you have an unlocked module. You have to remember that when you disconnect the battery that you always hook the positive side up first or you could ruin the ecm as per S&S on an efi bike. If you put the wrong map in your module then you could lock the new module.

I believe his module would be locked since its original BigDog. It might be worth it to send it Matt to put in the best map and unlock it for the future however.

If this is a service that they offer why would anyone want to buy a new one. have you heard the cost to do this.
He did it as a courtesy for another member not to long ago I remember reading the thread. Considering there are not many I'm sure he would be willing to do the same for others or maybe charge a very nominal fee.

Basically matt said he would verify it was good and to do so he had to unlock it and said he won't relock it when he was done.

If it has a warranty, would'nt they cover it?
I missed the part on buying a new one I think Matt is just willing to go out of the way for the legacy owners. Also not many FI modules out there anyways I imagine he won't get flooded with requests.

And I'm sure he would sell you a new one if the old one is bad.

^^^lol.

Im not sure if its completely true or not.
Haha that is not true.

It does pop right yes...but it serves a purpose and it's for breathing not any EPA regs to my knowledge. It's just there to allow rear to breath and not suck, otherwise you get two heads sucking at the same time ruins efficiency. It's all part of their SSW+ vs the older SSW
That's also what the white cap is for on s&s carbs EPA reasons :oldhardlaugh: it pops right off :whoop::oldhardlaugh:

That might be true I just found the thread matt just said he won't lock it if it's unlocked. Not specifically will unlock it. Looks like I remembered half of it. Lol

Well it's neither true nor false....you can always ask!

At least I remembered the thread... Nobody else seemed too....and KER should be our resident librarian and have all of these issues documented and cataloged appropriately

When I talked with an s&s rep last winter I was told it was for EPA reasons so it couldn't be adjusted and that's all it's for
Only believe half of what you read and even less of what your told. S&S rep should read his own website.

If you don't have the one way valve I believe you will have a vacuum leak which will hurt your performance. Front sucks and rear blows...

If it was there for EPA only then you could install on the front or rear

The rear head breather hose on an SSW+ engine performs the same function as the breather bolts on an Evo engine; that is, venting excess crankcase pressure to the outside, without allowing outside air back in. Both engines use a check valve to perform this function.

Evo engines use a pair of umbrella valves located inside the rocker boxes, while SSW+ engines use a one-way check valve, S&S Part #50-8122. It is located outside the engine, placed in the aforementioned rear head breather hose. The one way check valve must be used with the rear head breather hose, no exceptions. (By the way, SSW+ rocker boxes will have provision for Evo style venting, but it is not functional).
