When and should you pull trigger on replacing the EHC

In my opinion, anytime something needs to be replaced, go custom. Whether that means color it or get a different style. Youre going to spend a buttload of money, might as well look a little different, I like the shape of the OEM air intake, so I colored it to match my scooter.

I like the Plug and Play and if I do pull the trigger, that is what I will go with. I have some mechanical experience but that was more geared to hi-performance boating and that taught me a valuable lesson, only fix what needs to be fixed or it may cost more than you bargained for. I believe we have bikes that are worth the extra effort to keep them running, just take it for a ride and you remember why you bought it. Thanks for all the replies, this site is always helpful.

View media item 8969Well, I just joined the EHC club yesterday when with the help of Curtis I placed my order for Axel's (Elektronix) EHC made in Germany for my 04 Mastiff. Salute to Chris for answering all my questions. Symptoms were the Bike stopped running after 10 minutes and would not crank, I replaced the Battery with no luck, Red Oil light and Green Neutral light remained illuminated. Earlier and ongoing issues were the hazard flashers would always activate when I depressed the left turn signal and extinguish only when using the factory selection of both signal buttons, on occasion the Bike starter would keep turning and not start and sometimes I couldn't get it to shut down with the key and had to cut off the fuel or stall it with the brake and clutch. The Bike is in a local Dallas Shop and all I need from Wild Steed is the tracking information and expected delivery date. I will keep all informed of the results going forward. Semper Fi, Soupy

As long as your harness is good and no chaffing..Axels unit from Curtis should be about as easy as you can get. Good luck.

The Bike only has 2400 miles on it and appears to be original so I would not expect any chafing. Good comment so I will have the shop run the wiring to be sure. Soupy

Yes he has a module out for the 04
Signal module went out in my WP after over 11,000 miles & 6 years. (Don't know if that's to be expected or not) but it was over $200 & I might consider going with something else if it happens again or before.

Hi James,

I just finished a few 04 EHC and will bring it on the way to Curtis next week. However I had found out that my older 04 EHC makes problems when the battery is weak or almost empty (Thanks to some guys for testing :) ). I changed a few resistor values in the circuit and it looks better yet. I made the new 04 EHC a bit more similar to the original due to some useful suggestions from Curtis who was not happy with the position of the d-sub and the violet cables what are difficult to identify. The new 04 EHc looks like this:

EHC4-1.jpg

I use the same metal sheet what I use in the other EHC as well. It gives more stabilty against bending. I also implemented 2 rubber damper at the botton side, what will reduce vibrations.

By the way, Bruce, I would suggest you to use your old EHC until it starts to make trouble. I learned, never change a running system...

All the best!
Axel
