You mean bend the tabs back? I'm guessing they are a one time use and need to replace during re-assembly?
Yes I would, but if you don't break the tabs you could reuse them if you are okay with that. Same lock tab you have on your ignition key, I've bent mine out and back a few times.....

You can find the locking tabs at a auto parts store or hardware store, just keep one to get the size right.

I have officially tried everything, and it's not budging. Heat gun got it so hot that when I accidentally touched it with the rubber handle on my hammer, it melted it instantly. pried, whacked, shook, pried and whacked again......nothing.

Is it possible that I am pulling the shaft out of the transmission? And/or damaging my transmission?

Lube the shaft, that way transmission will not clench
I have done that already, but I am worried that I am just damaging stuff at this point. I got the motor plate to move about 1/16" away from everything, but it does not look like it has moved on the shaft at all. Which makes me wonder if that shaft is pulling out and/or damaging the internals on the transmission.

My guess is the bearing is holding it tight. Maybe heat the inner bearing race then tap with mallet? You are replacing it anyway?

SUCCESS!!!!!! After 5 hours of loving, caressing, and beating the sh*t out of it, it came off. NOW, I have found that the transmission pulley has a piece of a tooth broken off. It's about 1/4 of one tooth. Should it even concern me? Should I replace the pulley, or just file it so the edges aren't sharp, and proceed?

I would replace while your are there. Are you talking about the primary drive or final drive ?

I've never had one off so I was watching this trend. It was getting really intense there for a while. Glad it worked out for ya. I was beginning to sweat.:old2:

Front final drive pulley. The pulley against the transmission with the belt that goes to the rear tire. The problem is finding the part number for that pulley.

A couple of dings on the motor plate, but nothing worth fretting over. I hope to god I never have to do this again.
