Had the old Mastiff out for the first time this year

This pass weekend, started up the 05 Mastiff after checking the Tire Pressure, oil levels and a quick wipedown. Started right up, no issue sounded good and took her for a quick spin. Everything seemed good, though I did hear some rattling when I stopped in the garage.

Upon closer inspection, found the heat shield on the old Hooker Pipes had a snapped clamp. Trying to decide it I pull them off and try a weld to fix or go ahead and change to the Hooker Forbidden that I bought when Hooker stopped selling MC pipes a few years back (they were so cheap I bought two sets, the one I have on and another set in the attic NIB).

Anyway, though it was a short ride, everything else seem to be fine and hopefully it will keep on getting on for a while longer without any headaches.

I now have just short of 42K on it, still have the TP boxes, still have the original clutch and Baker that is still working fine. Did change out the EHC back when they came out with the PDM, the PDM is still going strong. Changed the odometer to a Dakota a few years back and it is still working right.

Everything seem to be good. Wish me luck and even if it starts failing the next time I run down the road, must say 11 years old and no major issues. Still brings a smile on the face.

All said, I keep thinking of buying me a Adventure bike to expand my horizons sometime, something along the lines of one of the BMW RS1200. My Buell is holding up well, but other than the short jaunts on the back roads of West Virginia, it is starting to show my back I am not so young anymore. May consider selling it this year. Not sure but if anyone may be interested in a 2009 Buell 1125R, give me a shout.

Everyone have a safe and enjoyable riding season this year, hope to see few of the old friends on the road and for sure at Rolling Thunder for those that still keep showing up to support the POW/MIA cause.

Woodbutcher I have been doing fine. Have not been on here as much as before, but still check it out and occasionally post something. Main reason is was busy with work awhile back and then have been off since mid November. Spent allot of time with the family and doing little project around the house as well as many little road trip to just get off the couch and go take picture.

I am getting ready to start a new project here in a few weeks and will once again be on the road with lots of travel. Initially a great portion up in Canada going all over the country from Alert to Vancover per say. May also be some oversea travel involved down the road. The good thing is that I will be in a somewhat cycle with typical 2 weeks on the road at various location, followed by a couple at home doing paperwork.

Look forward to the new project and the travel especially some that does not involve hot spots in the Middle East for now, though I did enjoy Dubai greatly.

Plan on trying to get great deal more riding in this year, than the last few during the times at home. Hopefully the old Mastiff will get a good work out too. I had done the Majority of my riding on the Buell for the last couple but still manage to get mayb 5K on the BD. That said if I do more than like 100 at a time on the Buell, I can feel it for sure. Nothing bad, just stiff joints-but has not stopped me for now.

It was fun on the quick jaunt on the Mastiff a few days ago and I am hoping to go out and get a mountain loop of maybe 300 within the week. Maybe do my favorite out to Seneca Rocks WV area and back down on US 33 twisties in WV/VA.

It is good to see that Matt and company are trying to give BDM another shot and I wish them luck. Also good to know that there is some continuation of support out there for the unique items of our Big Dogs. That said though I managed to buy some parts that tend to go over the years, such as the hand controls circuit board, LED PODs, brake kits and cyclinder rebuild, gasket, etc. So far have not had to use any of them, which is a good thing.

Well I will stop the blabber for now, I have to go do some cleaning of one of my .308 rifles from the range days the other day and then get on to the Honeydoos. Oh I was very happy at the range the other day with my R25 308, was maintaining 1" and less groups at 200 yards. Had it nailed down and then started shooting a 4" steel plate at 200 and ring ring ring, everytime. I think I got the interest of a few of the other shooters for sure. Love the .308!!!!!!!

so glad to hear you are getting to enjoy the good times! and, if you didn't catch it, pencil in June 22-June 25 of 2017 for the "Big Dog Biker-Unleash the Dogs" get together out in the Wichita, Ks. area. believe you would like the shooting aspect of the "Flint Oak Resort" where it is supposed to be located. be safe out there.

We did Seneca rocks last year and took 33 back to Harrisonburg, Va. Awesome country and excellent riding around that area.

Yes it is and one of my favorite loops, have already done it twice since January in the car just to go some picture, Soon on the bike again. Do love the US 33 Section going back to Harrisonburg, VA, some good twisties there. Also if you go North on 33 from SR to 32 and ride it upto Davis and Blackwater Falls and then cut back over on 48 to 50, some great riding there also.

Going to do my best to try to make it there next year if it goes down.
