Metzeler size vs Avon

Ok, I have an 05 chopper. No idea the brand of fender or struts, not factory unless they have been cut down. I have the Avon venom on it now and it's less than half life. So it'll be a few months before I actually replace it. Probably replace front at the same time since I can't find a matching rear. My thoughts and reading lead me to wanting a metzeler tire set this time. Metzeler seems to make a 260/40r18 instead of the 250/40r18. I have around 3/8" gap between the fender bolt heads now. So the question is does the metzeler run wider or narrower then the Avon on average? With only 5mm per side I'll have clearance. That's if they run equally true to each other.

Metz runs wider. I wouldn't try a 260 can't return a tire you already mounted. It's not just the fender, belt will hit first

Most likely you have an Avon Cobra? That was the original tire they no longer make them now they are venom. Tread pattern is identical however.

I'd recommend just sticking with the Avon for the 250 tire. Every other tire is a bit wider.

I can only speak for the 300's, but Metzler are a bit wider. There are posts on here about ppl shaving the sides or adding spacers behind the pulley of the Metzler to get belt clearance. Look into Shinko. I and other guys on here have them and we all love them. Not to mention the insanely low prices.

Hmm will it be okay to mix match tires?
You'll get a different answer from some folks. But I currently am and no issues.

Regardless the front is an Avon Cobra? Rear will be Avon Venom? Same tread pattern ALMOST identical tire we think they went to a slightly softer compound.

They are both the older Avon tires, and y'all are right the belt has same clearance issues as bolt heads. So I reckon I'll go back with the Avon, don't see a shinko offered in 250/40r18

I do run Venom (rear) and Cobra (front) No issues whatsoever.

BTW, Venom are the older, Cobras are what we are getting nowadays.
