Liven' life right bro!!! Any time I break down in the middle of no where all I see are hippy's in a Volkswagen or a bus load full of nun's. All sympathetic but not much help! Enjoy AZ! (As opposed to Jersey you just won the biker lottery!):D

Good post...You personify what bike trips are about. Sense of adventure, persistence on the face of the trials which always pop up on long trips.
Long tours are not for the faint of heart. Lots of guys would have been pissed off and bitched about BDM reliability--your optimism is what it's all about.:old2:
Thanks for the write-up, Jay.
I love my chopper and will defend it til the day i die. Sure its had some issues. But just normal stuff. And when you guys see pics you see i ride. Rain sleet snow. Never matters to me. I never wash the scoot. Thats what rding in the rain is for....

Dude, you ride in the rain just so that you can spend an afternoon in the shop cleaning it and killing a case of beer in the process. Nothing wrong with an afternoon in the shop with a few rags and a few cold ones.

Hahaha i guess it just comes down to the fact that I'm just too lazy or dont have the patience to polish the bike...

Hey Tattoo, we had another thread about bearings failing would be good to know how many miles you had on these when they failed.

Did you change them with your last set of shoes or are these older?

My bearings failed at 15K. But they were really bad! I just didn't realize it. No noise! The fronts were rusted too. The dust caps on the front hub, trapped moisture in behind them. The race rusted in the hub.

Yea mine didn't fail but at 8k they were already well worn. I packed more grease in the new set to prevent the know moisture from getting in.

Hey welcome to the valley of the sun. I moved out from NH (originally from MA) and one of my buddies I worked with (originally from Jersey) is out here. We are in the Anthem area, north of Phoenix, but as soon as hunting season winds down, we'll head south or maybe meet somewhere.

Looks like you brought the rain with you though. I've only been out here 4 years and up until now, I think we maybe had 5 days of rain a year. Last year I managed to ride the Chopper almost every single day (unless hunting). Recently though it's been one storm after another. This summer / fall, I have actually been caught in down pours on the bike. I may actually have to think about packing rain gear again.

Haven't been to Tucson yet, but I do know they get alot of Mountain Lions in and about the neighborhoods. They are almost as prevalent down there as coyotes are in the rest of the state. Get used to the wildlife because coyotes and javelina's are like wharf rats and squirrels in Jersey.
