My bets on a bad connection/bad battery. The test leads making contact to the +/- on the battery shouldn't change anything.

While you shipped the EHC off go get the battery load tested at AutoZone for free. 8 months don't mean shit, I bought a battery in February and it went South in April

I had a friend with a Viper and it kept acting up and running rough, sometimes it wouldn't start, the dealer told him to disconnect the battery cables from the battery and hold both cables to the frame and it would dump the cookies stored in the computer. By damn it worked, car ran fine after that, so it seemed that it was storing too many different codes and this reset it, so to speak.
I wonder if that would be possible with the EHC? or is it not that sophisticated.

Something like that is done with laptops.... take the battery out and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds.... it also clrears the gremlins!

I was just watching you're post with the bike idling with the new cam. I tend to agree with the loose connection theory. After hours of letting it idle in the garage you must have shook something loose!

I had a 3 year old battery load test the same as a new one, but it would not spin the dog over, these battery's are all over the place

I'm worried about that happening here too. A lot of these battery posts are pretty soft and its difficult to get a good connection

I used a little longer screws to catch more threads, but clean connections are the important thing, and it is possible to get a bad new battery. Especially with the AGM's, you don't know if its a year or 2 old when you buy it.

It does seem as if the bolts they give you with the battery are just a little short, maybe it would be ok if you only had one wire connected to it!

The Harley battery's are flush to the sides, but I have purchased others in the past that are recessed from the edge and those come with brass spacers to space the terminals out flush with the side of the battery.
