No octane boost from me- maybe previous owner. Bike has 3,800 miles on it and I've only put 100 of them on myself.

Any of you fellow BD owners running steel without leaks? I have read as many threads on (insert brand here) new liner kits peeling off after a few years as I have threads on (insert brand here) working great. I basically do not want to deal with another peeling liner, ever. Rust is not a concern where I live in Los Angeles, bike is never going to sit empty.
Had the same problem with My 04 Pitbull. Luckily I work for a chemical company so I could get whatever my heart desired. I found that Methylene Chloride works the best. I am running with no liner with no leaks. I havent had any issues thus far.

ok. I just bought the grabbers, and got a lot of green chunks out...then vaccumed the rest of with a wet vac. Semms to be free of liner and chunks now..... but im thinking of pulling the petcock and cleaning that filter. Does that sound like a good idea? or should I just run some seafoam through it, and ride ?

YES!!! Definitely you should clean the petcock and clean everything through that hole as thorough as you can too! 4145340922.gif

No loctite, and no only by hand.... use a wrench to tighten it up... just don´t go overboard... it does not need much torque.

another idea I had, ..............take the tank off.....and spray the inside of tank with pressure washer. Fill, shake, empty,,....do it again. I also think I have a venting issue. Bike runs out of gas, only there is some gas left in tank, and I havnt heard it venting in a year. I used to hear the hissing sound of the venting. Now I don't. gas cap is not clogged. I can only assume there is another problem with the fuel delivery system somewhere. carb is clean, fuel lines seem to be clean as well.

Ride a bit with you cap loose and that will tell you if it isnt venting properly or not.

I've had the issue with the old liner start to peel and clog the pitcock; so.........I took it to West End Radiator repair in St. Louis, Mo. and they did get the old liner out, but not without the paint being slightly blemished; which for me is ok since I planned on repainting the tank with newer paint scheme anyway. But now I have a new problem. The threads of the fuel bung are a bit worn down, and I'm told that it would be difficult to cut the old one out and weld a new bung back in, mainly because the inner liner would burn some, and therefore would need to be re lined.....bummer that noise. Soooooooo, now I'm looking at finding a stainless steel hex nipple, with female threads to screw over the old fuel bung outlet, seal it with liquid steel or something similar; and the other end threaded male so I can screw the pit cock collar onto it and have everything back together; Question is: Where can I find something like that? or.......any other ideas that I can consider for a quick solution?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Could try a helicoil thread insert.

is there any type of bulletin on why these liners fail. Type of fuel? Treatments? Year of Bike? etc.

I suspected i had something in cross over tube once but it cleared itself. will this shit float in the gas or settle and would it be better to keep the tank full whenever possible?
