Cam, carb, air cleaner

I’m putting the chopper in the shop and while I had it in there I thought I would have them stuff in a new cam. Based on recent posts, I’m leaning towards the Woods 640 but has anyone heard anything about the S&S 675? My goal is to keep the power band low with massive torque. Also, I have the stock air cleaner, any suggestions without spending a lot of money? The Carb is Super E and I wondered if it’s worth XXX’n or if I should go with a plain G for now. The pipes are V&H BR without baffles and there is a lot of popping and backfire. I hear it’s normal with short pipes but it just sounds bad and wondered if a dyno-tune would help. Any feedback would help. Thanks!

Another round please
650 woods here, 124 lbs torque. K&N airfilter on the bike. I love my xxx carb. I noticed a instant difference on my bike. My dyno chart is on my biker photos. Good luck.

:hi: my suggestion is to back up, take your time, and do not jump into major mods without giving it a lot of thought and research. know just what you want to accomplish and start from there. just because the bike is in the shop doesn't mean it has to be done right now.

You're not going to get torque low in the power band with a 675 cam. Long duration cams (269/275 degree duration on the 675 cam). those cams will provide plenty of mid to top end power but you will sacrifice low end torque. An open exhaust (no baffles) will also degrade low end torque. Take the Super E and sell it to somebody with an 80 inch engine. That just isn't enough carb for a 117 ci engine!

I've got a G on my little 107 (along with 10.5:1 heads and some other little go tricks) and it's loads of fun!

Well if you don't care about how long it takes you to get there why don't you do a gear set change or drive around in first gear to get massive torq? Its a combination of carb, pipes, ignition, list goes on.

05chop you said "its a combination of carb, pipes, ignition..." Combination suggestions is why I posted. Our bikes started with the same setup so what did you end up doing? I keep hearing the 05's were EPA detuned to the point of death so I want to undo the detune.

If your bike is stock take out the intake restrictors gaskets .I removed the restrictors then replaced the e-manifold with a G- manifold. Then i got martin bros pipes, no decel popping. Then did a re jet with the e-carb. Most here have the triple x carbs and like them. I have no problem with the Harley's in the h/p dept as long as i stay out of Colorado. Guess what I'm saying is there are other ways to get torq with out breaking the bank.

I agree with 05

I have the Woods .650 cam which is high lift short duration designed for torque - I certainly wouldn't argue with Dogvet as he knows what he's talking about but you may get better low end oomph with the E over the G because of the smaller venturi - top end power will suffer though - you could always go for the PSI carb depending on your budget - you should also think about zeroing your deck height to get a more sensible compression for stronger running and to get more out of a performance cam. Also I think V&H big rads are more for show than for go - have a think about a decent 2 into 1 system - definitley get the restrictor plates out and upgrade your air intake - its all about breathing - it all depends what you to spend

not everything...most things though I agree - people who have money and say it doesn't make them happy can give it to me and I'll give it a try

Does anyone have the stock volumetric efficiency numbers for the 117" supplied with the Big Dog line up? I am looking to compare where I was to where I am now.
