I got a 2003 bulldog with a 107 ci has anyone had an issue with the negative side of the battery melting down on start up? The battery was only 1 year old and this is the second time in two years any thoughts? :bang:

with it being an '03, do you have compression releases on it?? could just be the battery got a little too weak for the load and it overheated. the motor probably is drilled and tapped for CR's but may not have them. if not, would be money well spent for the safety of the starter and battery.

2003 S and S 107s have ports for releases, Simple install. Smoking ground is usually caused by lose connection.

Most likely your battery terminal was loose if the starter and CR's are good. Inside the lead terminal there is a metal insert that the battery bolt is threaded into. When the connection gets loose the bolt and insert heats up and melts the outer lead. You can tighten up the bolt more than you wold think, because you are really going into steel with the bolt rather than lead. But keep in mind it is still a very small bolt.

Yeah it doesnt have the CRs nor is it drilled, I was wondering if that could have been the problem, I changed up some wireing reducing the amount of connections at the positive and negative terminals I do frequently check the tightness of the post connections due to all the vibration, first time I thought it was just a bad battery but after the second I figured it had to be something else I will look into the CR's. thanks guys.
