My HID Light kit from Jake at lowdownchopshow.com arrived Friday .. today I installed it per Jake's great instructions and Gasman's how-to remove your headlight. Simple process that took about 20 minutes from start to end and five more minutes with the new light running to burn it in properly. WOW is all I can say much brighter and excellent visibility. I highly recommend this to everyone as it makes night driving safer and visibility is much improved!! Thanks again Jake (bdm). :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I think it was like 3/16" there are four holes and just two screws -- when you put the ballast in be sure to turn it a little sideways so there is plenty of room. The chrome ring comes off easy, the inner ring is a bit harder but using an awl and small screwdriver to tap it lightly until is moves - from there its simple - be sure to align the inner rubber seal and inner ring are aligned to the tab on the headlight - took be a few tries to get it doing it by myself. I used never seize on the threads so it will come out the next time. Follow Jake's instructions and you should be good to go.

I will post pics today ..

I can't get my headlight ring to spin. I took the allen screws out, and the damn thing won't turn. Tried taping on the housing to get it to break loose. Put on rubber gloves for better grip. Sprayed windex around it try some lubrication. Now, I smell like rubber, got all lubed up, and had no fun. WTF?!?!

Be patient and keep working at it. It'll eventually come loose. Try some tape on the ring and the gloves are a good idea.

Take a heat gun or wife hair dryer and heat the outside of the headlight so it expands and pops loose from the ring, then try to pop it loose. Don't over heat it, just get it real hot to the touch.

Or go to auto parts store and get some Break Away spray. Stuff is awesome, Spray it down and let it set over night or all day and pop it loose.

Slowrower, thanks for the positive feedback, always love to hear it.

I have some PB Blaster at work. I'm gonna try that tomorrow. I tried the duct tape also. Didn't budge. I'll try the heat gun thing in a bit.

mine was a pain the ass to get off too - the exact opposite to slow..the chrome ring not easy, the inner ring easy. I just drilled mine in the end and used a hole punch in the hole to get it out - fucked it up a bit but I care not!

Where did you drill it?

I had the same issue with my chrome ring. Tried everything reasonable and ended up having to cut a little notch where I could get a punch and tap it loose. After all said and done, got looking at the ring real close and saw that it was slightly oblong due to where the set screws were. Evidently the set screws had been tighten enough to cause it to get out of shape and thus not willing to spend freely.

End up with a little custom notch, much like Lee, but nothing major and it blends in well. The inner one was easy.

Very interested in the HID kit, but will wait to see how the long term test and use work out for those that took the plung first. Still shy about messing with anything electrical since the systems is so sensitive and I have not had and would not want any problems on that end.

Hey Fibersnake,
The HID is a plug in unit. It draws 3.5 amps compared to the 5.5 amps of the stock bulb. That 3.5 on the HID is the start up current draw at that! The current draw after warm up is only 2.9 amps!

If you have any other ???'s about the HID let me know. I have been running mine for some time and have had them in my cars for well over a year.

bdmridgeback,

Thanks for the info and I am very interested in the kit, just waiting to see how more real time on the BD come out. It sounds like you put allot of research and time in to this and getting a great kit out and kudso for doing so. Just a little gun shy and want to see how more make out over a longer run.

Something about the electronic systems on the BD, that I am very shy to mess with anything that changes it.

Based on the initial reports, I have s good feeling that I will be requesting an order from you in the not too distance future.

Safe riding
