Documenting the tear down rebuild

Energy One
Motor is almost torn all the way down still on the fence if I am going to send it out with the heads and cylinders or do all the polishing myself.

Triple trees will go out to get re chromed soon and may due the rims too, slowing things down until I start getting parts back.. and saving up some $$$ to get the next round going. does it ever end?

On another note while tearing into my triple trees. I came across this lock washer inside the top triple tree where the triple trees mount into the neck.. really don't think this belongs in here and have a feeling this may have been the issue with the bike handling poorly..

ANYONE HAVE A REASON THIS WOULD BE IN THE TOP OF THE TRIPLE TREE???

No, just like the wife wanted to paint the living room, ok. Then the blinds look old so new blinds. Then the couch wasn't the right color, new couch. When all done with the living room she said "Man, we need to do something with the kitchen.....:bang:

Same with a bike. Chrome or powder coat a few parts and the rest look like shit. And I see no reason for that lock washer there...

Sent a email to big bear asking about the lock washer in the upper triple tree and they responded promptly no reason for it to be in there. I figured as much and really wonder if this affected the handling. On another note I am going to do a write up on big bear choppers with photos. They have received a lot of bad press and so far my experience with them has been very smooth. Again, I will wait until it's complete before I go overboard about my experience!

Received my Adams Polish today, decided while the bike is in pieces I would start polishing. Spent about 3 hours polishing the rear rim tonight.

Man just seeing the bike in pieces would scare the shit out of me, I don't know if my wrenching skills will ever be that good. That Adams sure did a number on them, they look brand new, Awesome job! What all are you planning for the engine? Did you have the TP top end and going with full S&S now? Switching out your cam and carb? Just curious and looks like you are handling it well Brother.

You would be surprised I started out with minimal skill and have made plenty mistakes, most posted somewhere on the forums asking for help. Well the motor is out of my big bear so no tp heads s&s only. I am having the motor polished by Mirror Finish Polishing | Metal Polishing & Buffing Services | then probably going to send them out for a diamond cut. Not much in performance upgrades as the motor is pretty smooth running as it is. The only issue was there was oil blowing all over and it would end up all over my garage floor. I am handling it alright I really did not want to tear this one down but once I found the crack decided to go after it.

got a call from Big Bear today, all frame work and paint is done and for about a thousand less than what was quoted. going to try and blow off work tomorrow to make the trip to San Bernadino to pick up the parts. Transmission is with Andrew getting rebuilt,, will post pictures and the rebuild once parts start coming back... anxiously waiting to see the motor after coming back from polishing and then off to Diamond cut it...

Frame and paint

frame is back notice the neck gusset that was welded into the frame for stability this was done by Big bear to correct some issues they were having with some of their bikes no charge to add the gusset. rear fender looks incredible!

I am very pleased with BBC and how they treated me during the whole process, I will post more later on that write up.
