2.5" Extended Forward Controls

All I'm having an issue with installing the left extended control on my 2008 Mastiff and want to see if anyone has ran into this issue. It seems that when I install the left side, my shift linkage interferes with the down tube when pushing the lever down (as in down shifting). Has anyone ran across this issue? If so what did you do to correct the issue? I performed a search and found no mention of this issue.
Here is a pic of my stock control on the shifter side. It's several inches from the down tube and has a spacer between the lver and the push rod:


Here's a pic of the 2.5" mount for the left side. If you can imagine it mounted in place where the stock one is, it would fit fine, it's just the shift lever where the push rod mounts that's the problem. The nut that secures the push rod is hitting the down tube when I install this one :




Here's a pick of the extension for the shift side. I had it on the scoot and I adjusted the push rod ends all the way in and all the way out and still had interference. If anyone has put the 2.5 entensions on an older model Mastiff, could you please post up some pics of this side so I can see what kind of clearance you have and explain what you did.



I checked my Ridgeback and it has a shorter spacer between the push rod and shift lever. If I were to put on a shorter spacer the push rod wont be straight and i really dont want that.

Is your shift rod at the trans mounted on the inside or out side of the lever? I don't remember which way is stock. I have 4'' forward controls, and had no choice but to shorten the stem where it mounts to the foot peg. Mine shifts just fine, and is not that far out of line. You can always put a spacer at the lever on the trans, I suppose.

what about putting a shorter spacer at the front end and adding a spacer at the trans end of the rod to keep it parallel w/ the motor. yes, it would make it hang out over the belt drive some but it may be a fix.

Outside of the lever, I guess I could shim the push rod out with a little spacer and shorten the forward spacer to make it travel straight and not at an angle. Thanks for the input fellas...:2thumbs:

But I see the difference here. There's a plate that adds the length while the BDM kit the length is built into the block and the block thickness hasn't changed while the plate I see in this pic is what 1/8" thick? That 1/8" thickness would give me the clearance I need.

normally the brake line is ok on the 2.5 inch extension but anything more than that, yes, the brake line needs to be extended.

Think your right there Tom. My 2.5 came with a short ( like 2" extended banjo type fitting so I used it.:2thumbs:

Yeah with the 2.5" extension kit the brake line is fine. I just ran into the issue with the left side is all. So seeing the replies here I see some of y'all did too. It's just, I've never seen any mention about it in the past, but now we have a historical thread that describes the issue for those who may run into this issue in the future. Thanks for all your replies...:2thumbs:

3" extensions here; no issues and no brake line extension needed (but supplied) only rod extension was needed, also supplied.

DM Customs ones that is. those actually leave the pegs a bit more outwards... more space between the shifter and the frame´s downtube.

I just installed mine and I had no issues with either side although it is pretty close to the down tube and I had to bring the adjustment outward on the new shifting rod to make it long enough , other than that everything went well!
