primary torque pattern?

I read there was a pattern to torque the primary cover bolts. (2004 LSD )

anyone got a link? i have searched and cant find it. I would assume to do it evenly (like a car wheel) slowly getting it all tight at the same time.

BUT since i read there was a pattern to follow. why not do it right.

I am sure I can put it back together as I already stated, but if there is a order was curious what it is.

i can say that the '05 & up starts in the far lower right quadrant and goes in a clockwise motion to the far upper left quadrant and then moves on the the next bolt in order until completed. i usually go around twice with the first round being 5 ftlb less that recommended and the last being the recommended torque. hope this helps.

THanks thats at least a start! basicly clock wise with you 2 starting point being bottom right and upper left. and bounce back and forth

KD, I've pulled my primary cover lots of times and I never worried about a pattern on putting it back on.

X2, just a "common sense crossed pattern" and making sure the gaskets don´t move from their slots.

Like others have already said, it's a cross pattern torque. If you want a written explanation of it, any Harley service manual will list it.
The most important thing is you put RTV silicone on the front O-ring seal along with putting a light film around the mounting bolt holes to engine case and transmission case. If you do not do this, you will get an oil leak.
You also want to use blue loctite on all the bolts. Snug in cross pattern and then final torque of 18-20 ft lbs. Don't forget to lock down the locking tabs.

Ooops, I see now that you are asking about the COVER bolts, not inner primary. Sorry about that :bang:
The same thing holds true about the star pattern and Harley Manual. But no RTV needed and final torque is only 8 ft lbs :2thumbs:
