you should have 2 set screw at least. you will have an outer trim ring and a inner trim ring. The outer is smooth with no grooves in it to get ahold of and can be a PITA to remove , the chrome can get flaked around the threads. a little bit of WD 40 and work it back and forth should get it moving. the back ring "inner trim ring" I use a allen wrench to remove.

I've pulled these many times. After you take the set screw out, put on a pair of rubber gloves (e.g. surgical type) and the extra grip will get it to spin. I've used anti-seize when putting in back on makes the next time easier.

We have the tool you need to remove the beauty ring. It works 99% of the time. Give us a call tomorrow and I'll let you borrow it. It's a clutch pressure plate with a chunk of tire intertube wrapped around the outside of it to grip it. It's the only one we have, so we will need it back ASAP. If for whatever reason it won't work, (some dipshit using loctite on the threads) I'll send you a new beauty ring. C.A.Jones V-Twin | Custom Builds, Parts & Service
