I believe Curtis has EHC's for sale. Might want to give him a call.
Now is a good time to check all the rest of your wiring for shorts to ground and corrosion at connectors. Pull your fuel tank and make sure all wires running along backbone of frame are still in good shape, not rubbing on the fuel tank, causing a short. I would also take all connectors apart, one at a time and put a little dielectric grease into them. At battery make sure all wires have good crimps at the wire ends. And clean the 2 plugs going into the EHC and put some Dielectric grease in them as well.
Do you need a Maxi fuse for the charging system?

The old 40 amp fuse was still good but I replaced it with a new one.

Ok so you do have the updated Maxi fuse, not circuit breaker?

.
Curtis told me one of the main Mosfet breakers went bad in the ecu.

.
Still a good time to look over the bike for any possible shorts. You don't want to put a new EHC in, only to find you have other problems that can possibly harm the new EHC.

Just wanted to give a quick thank you to all those that helped me out with my bike issue. Curtis (KaptAmerica) at WSW is a great guy as most of you know but to any of the newer members who don't know Curtis, he is top notch.

Thanks again

Thanks coachk, its great customers like yourself and many others on this site that make it worth my time.
I just wanted to follow up here on coahk's EHC testing.
I have received a number of EHCs from customers for testing and a predominant theme is the damage that is prevalent on the EHCs when I receive them.
If you have not done so I would highly recommend you examine your EHC in your Big Dog and make sure you have the following in place:

1) A minimum 1/8" neoprene foam base under the EHC as well as on sides that may be rubbing or banging against the battery box.
2) Ny-lock nuts instead of a nut and washer
3) CLEAN Di-electric grease filling the connections

Yes the potting does isolate the electronics from some vibration.
However, it will not isolate the EHC from harsh impacts which will occur if your EHC is loose in the battery box and not properly mounted. Harsh impacts will reduce the life of your EHC dramatically so get it secured. You MUST use Ny-lock nuts and NOT a nut and washer setup. The Ny-lock will allow you to put just enough tension on the mounting bolts to pull the EHC snuggly against the neoprene and not come loose. This will also prevent the EHC from being to tight against the battery box which can lead to damage from harsh impacts and excess vibration.
Finally the Di-electric grease. It does not last forever. Clean the connections out every couple of years, at least, and refill them.
Remember to disconnect your positive battery cable before tampering with the EHC connections. Sudden voltage spikes can damage the electronics.

Good info. Thanks for sharing, I'll get that taken care of before the season. :2thumbs:

Can I borrow your ecu till your season starts....:D

Moving back to Florida by the end of February so no….:D. There is one on sale on eBay right now though. Another thought is that maybe Donna has one. I will try to get a spare since mine has over 20K miles on it, despite the fact that so far the electrical system on my bike has given me zero problems…

That guy is crazy if he thinks he can get $500 for the used EHC on ebay. You can see the mounting studs are broken off and it's all beat to hell!!!:job::job::job:
The other is for an early model. Will not work with his 06 BDM.

I agree, I didn't check the price or anything else. I just saw they were on sale and thought I would give the OP as many shots at it as possible. Just because someone is asking the world doesn't mean you can't send them a message with an offer of way less. It has worked for me…..

So question still stands: Where does one go to get the best possible deal on a new EHC ?

Not sure if you can find a new, never used EHC. Most have been used even for testing that I've found...

Thanks Franco I sold it to a new member on here from virginia. It's very important to locate why your EHC died in the first place so you don't kill the new one you are installing. EHC s don't like electrical surges however they are dependable as long as no shorts etc. always pull negative cable off first never jump with a running vehicle are some good suggestions.

I agree with Andrew about wire plus. I'm on my third. They are terrible to deal with also.

I am sure the actual failure rate of EHC is less than WP.
