Oh well.... the Dog is covered and the battery on the tender till March now...

I was thinking... would it be a good time to swap Heads and go with the S&S??? :D

Who could send me a good set of complete heads with good valves & heavy duty (600 min lift tolerance) springs, lifters & pushrods, etc. all set up ready to mount on the bike?? John? Andrew? Curtis?

I will not change cam again for the time being.... I will stay with the 585.

Do you think it is a job I could do myself? or is there a need for specific tools?

and.... HOW MUCH +/- would these cost me?

if you are going to do all that you might as well take the cylinders off and have them cut down to increase compression, then you end with basically a new top end of the motor.

I wish I could do all that.... I am very limited... no mechanics for this sort of work where I am.... I am (I have to be) self sufficient. I need something sent to me which is "Plug & Play" !

that being the case, ask John Sachs or Andrew if you can rework the S&S heads before they send them to you.

Another question I would ask, how many thousands can they remove from the heads or not.

On it Stephen, Andrew might come to Spain in May and bring the necessary...

You guys are great!! I knew importing a Big Dog to Spain would be dangerous for me... but.... "danger" is my middle name!!! :D

If it´s easy... it´s too easy!!!!

I believe it was Chris at S&S told me to nip the jugs 30 Thou and it would really open up mine with the new 585.

Good luck Franco !

Call Kendall Johnson's shop in Winston-Salem NC. Here is his shop number 336-748-3833. He made all the recommendations I did to my HD. I sent him my EVO heads and he decked them .010, did a polish job cleaning the intake and exhaust areas also new valve guides and springs. Supplied me with my new pistons, cam, and power commander. I Dyno at 95hp! It was his idea to not increase valve size so we could increase torque higher with the smaller valves.

Most likely Derek has a set of used heads he can sell you, can send them to me to have them reworked (no need to get crazy with porting and decking and all that with a street bike IMO ) then send them to you when done. Like I said before, with new valves, guides, seats, Comp springs, keepers, seals and machining, they are around $500. New from S&S are around $1300 I believe.
If you want me to ask Derek, I can do that for you.

Guys,

I don´t want to go too crazy.... I just want a good set of reliable heads ... I want to keep my 585... I just want my Dog to be "up & go" ...

Money.... USD 5K max .

Thanks.

Franco, would you be comfortable pulling your top end of motor apart? If so, the most cost effective might be to send the heads over here and have them reworked....but you would need to do it before you went away for work. I would say shipping weight will be around 25 lbs and would have to be packed very very well. Air freight as well....just a thought.

I have proven myself to be more than capable to tear things apart.... the worry is... will I be able to .... put it back together...???

Usually, once I´ve blown "something" off/out.... I just go/make my way back to Base! (For de-Briefing) :D
