Franco, this sucks, I'm not on here for a day and look what happens, take a deep breath and slow down, you'll get it straightened out.:whoop:

Franco,Franco,Franco,
How bad is it bent ? Does it slightly wobble when you spin it, or is it noticeably bent ?
If it is noticeably bent, take a compression test. If compression is even slightly low(15 lbs. less than the other cylinder) then do a leakdown, and listen for the air escaping from the intake(carb) or exhaust.
John
Good morning.... back to it!!!

John, it slightly wobbles when I spin it. If I was to lie it down I would say the gap would be no more than 2-3 millimeters. I checked the compression with my finger... It blows it out (same as the other cylinder) as far as I can feel.

I think I have adjusted the push rods on that (rear) cylinder wrong, but I´ve done three times on a row and same result... I had to walk away from it last night.... I did become very frustrated .

Could it be electric? it happens once to me and after I changed the spark plug it did work fine... not this time though. I think I am starting to imagine too many things now

Pushrod tube keeper = the upper portion that clips in, and keeps the tubes from collapsing.
Never, unless they're leaking.
Never, unless they're noisy. You have hydraulic lifters. Set them once PROPERLY and forget them.
Tinkeritis will ruin sh*t all the time. :bang:
John
Thats from anothet tread but it did spark something in my mind..... while rotation the rear wheel I did notice THE pushrod from that rear exhaust lifter jumping out out of place on the lifter .... Could it be the cause??? yes, I kept rotation the wheel and it jumped back into place

What setting them PROPERLY means? I thought those can only stay in one position!

Right!

I am going downstairs to the garage and I am going to start again.... I will open the cam case and start all over again the same way I did last year when I installed the 585.... If I notice something weird I will take pictures.

God help me!!! I don´t need my Dog down... I have no mechanics in a 200 miles radius..... I depend on myself and YOU guys. thank you very much for all your responses, I really appreciate it.

When you originally did the 4 turns the lifters are pumped, after sitting they bleed down so that you can turn with your fingers, if it is still tight after 20 minutes then it needs to be backed off cause its solid. The 4 turns is supposed to put you in the middle of the pushrod adjustment and then the hydralic lifters take over from there when you fire it up, they self adjust with the oil.

Don't open the cam cover, if you don't have the cam cover on you lose the front cam support. There's nothing wrong down there.

I can turn the rods after just 10 minutes

Pushrod dancing around  Means you have something else going on. You adjusted them with the lifter at it's lowest point correct?
I'm thinking you might have a lifter problem as well as a bent pushrod. Are you hurting for $$ now or can you invest $200 for lifters and $100 for pushrods, $50 in gaskets + shipping to get to you?
At this point like John said, you probably should try to do a leak down on the motor as well to make sure you don't have a bent valve.
If you don't have a leak down tester, you can cheat with a blow gun using compressed air. Put front cyl at TDC, with bike in gear, have someone hold rear brake, blow a little air into front cyl through the plug hole and listen to see if you are loosing any air out exhaust or intake. If the blow gun wants to blow back out of your hand and your not hearing any loss of air, that's a good thing.
Now go to rear cyl and do the same thing with the rear at TDC.

4 turns on Pushrod...
You want the lifter at it's lowest point and pushrod collapsed. With the lifter at lowest point, adjust pushrod till it just touches lifter and there is no play up and down. This is all being done with your fingers, not a wrench. Once you have zero play, make a mark on the adjuster and the solid part of the rod with a marker, and then make your 4 turns out (lengthening the rod)

Not too sure they were pumped... I was draining the oil at the same time!

So..Franco what you took away from John's post was your lifter jumping out of place? I hope you will take away once you got your pushrods set....you dont need to touch them :D:roll::lol::loony:

Everyone has you going on the right track, but I feel for ya man everytime you think you might doing the right thing you go and fuck it up...happens to me all the time.

If you could turn them with your fingers after setting a little while, they were pumped. If they can't be turned after sitting you are bottomed (solid) and bending will prolly happen. Listen to Andrew

I agree with not tinkering once its set up and you had that after the 585 cam change, I told ya you had too much go juice in your wheaties:cheers:

Right... ITHINK... the problem is the lifter.... let´s see if I make sense:

Intake lifters: both seems fine to me and do not drop down all the way.

Exhaust lifters: the from cylinder comes down all the way but it is smoth... NOW, the rear one (bent pushrod) was stucked... had to push it down with the push rod... then, with force. with my finger went up. I gave her a 180 degree turn and now goes up & down smooth!!!!

Mo...er F..s are driving me crazy... opinions?

BTW! the cam came out together with its cover..... I can just re-align the marks right???

Yes you need to align marks on cam with mark on pinion gear. You have 2 marks on cam, one will not be used because you have a reed type breather, but the one mark on cam will point towards the breather and the other will align exactly with pinion gear. DON"T MESS THIS UP!! :D
As far as the lifters go, you really need to take them out of the tappet block and check for any play on the wheels. They should have some side to side play, but no up and down. Know what I mean?
You might be able to check with that cam cover off, but really at this point should take at least the rear out because that's the side giving you problems.
Do you have the alignment tool for the tappet blocks to install them correctly?

Awwww Andrew.... I wish I had the necessary tools... I am doing my best with my fingers LOL opppps after re-reading this it sounded weird :D

The cam marks, no worries... I did study it during two years reading here before I finally installed it (same for the pushrods)!!! Ask Ker! :D

Now, the lifters.... I am VERY sure thats the problem.... as I said before, that particular one gets stucked easily... i have rotated it 180 and it seems fine now... in the middle of adjusting pushrods again.... BRB

He he Eric... just noticed your post now.... I am stressed out :bang:

I am doing the last pushrod at the moment.... but definitely (I think) I am lucky and it was that F...g Lifter.... if now it works... I will NOT start it again till I have new Lifters & Pushrods!!! just in case! :D
