Gettin' ready to take the K-9 to the Vet this week for some warranty work, and I am starting to have a clutch issue ( I think). 775 miles on an 07...After the bike gets warmed up.... 20/30 miles, when you shift from 2ed to 3ed gear the shift peg kinda sticks 1/4" or so
above where it should be.After you give it a little throttle it will ease back down in the correct position. (bike remains in gear fine, but peg will move 1/4" or so. Also, when I come to a stop...You cannot down shift thru the gears to 1st as easily as you should. After a couple of tries...you will be able to down shift to 1st.
Would like a little technical advise so I can explain it to the tech's at the dealer.
Sorry if this has been covered in a past forum.
I wish we all had technical knowledge like some do!!!!

It needs to have the linkage cleaned. They'll clean it for you. It doesn't sound out of adjustment to me.

I would first check or have them check the heim joints, clean and lube or replace, then have them pull apart the foot shaft, clean and relube, I use lube-i-plate and haven't had anymore issues....Good Luck!!!!

Which linkage...or all linkage points??
MLB, heim joints are the two little ball joints at the front and rear of the horizontal shift bar that runs from the foot shift control back to the transmission. They can tend to stick if they are not lubed regularly. Just reach down and wiggle them a bit to see if they are moving freely or not - that'll tell you if that's the problem.

Sorry I was out. These guys and Gas Man have you going in the right direction. If they let you watch you can do it fairly easily. My Ridgeback did the same thing. My old Harley used to do it too.

And be sure... when you lube them you use a dry lubricant like you SHOULD be using on your cables. I always use cable life on both the cables and the heims.

Had a problem with my clutch on my 07 K9. Lost the clutch all together. Took it to the shop and the main bolt came loose in the primary. There was none of the required red locktight on the nut and it backed out. Easy fix thank goodness but how much life did it take of the tranny. Drove it for about 30 miles in the rain. Had no choice but it was a crazy ride.

are the heim joints a standard one size fits all type of thing? so any at a harley dealer would be good to go?

I've said this before on a few threads, But Take them BDM Stock Heim Joints off and Throw em as far away as you can. Unless they have made a change, they are too stiff, Find some with Brass inserts from your Local Harley Dealer, No Lube Needed, I can rock mine back and fourth with no effort. When the BDM ones heat up, they Bind.
Yeah I noticed how almost flimpsy my wicked image shifter linkage is with their nice hiem jts on it... WAY different than the stock ones.

Lee... I believe they are 5/16th hiems...shit... no... 9/16th... crap... my mind is mush right now... I just told Dave the other week.. maybe he'll chime in and tell it..

They had to perform a service bulletin sb-1103 i think that they said which is some new kind of hiem joints. Bitch shifts so much better now.
