So after coming across the fabled Captain America Bike (Easy Rider), I checked the web for vendors and found that the OCC has one in their old school section.

Im not looking to buy one (stickin to my big dog commitment) but what are the pro's take on the OCC bikes?

And if this is a Danger topic (OCC stuff on a Big Dog site) then Im gonna apologize ahead of time.

I would just say that I have never seen anything they conjured up I would trade even for my ole' scooter. The ole' scoot I spent practically 3 months on bringing back from the dead a few years ago. Replacing lots of things that needed replacing because of neglect,, it still has a few little things we refer to as character issues. It's an ole' dog like myself and most of the rest of us on this forum,,, it's certainly not perfection but these ole scoot's fit us like a gloove, personality as well. Some are more the stretched out versions, some closer to the pavement, they are all loud and lean. There are several Scooter's in here I would put up against anything OCC ever "conjured up" (I use that word in a more realistic way,, than scooters that maybe someone might want a second version of what the heck is that!).. Some of my personal favorites include Reaper's scooter and Five-Five's shiney red one. Besides all that when I rode the Dragon last year on my ole Scooter when the blount county sherriff pulled me over for what he later told me was over double the speed limit. The first thing out of his mouth was "Nice Bike", and not put your hands behind your back! We had a nice little chat afterwards in which he didn't even want my signature, he didn't even get his ticket book out. If I was on an OCC bike it might have been a ticket from the "Fashion" police as well.

if you are really looking at a OCC, make sure you go through the parts list to see if they used the same quality items that BDM used. also, from what i have heard and read, the fit and finish on an OCC is just not there.

I have personally viewed one of their bikes up close and personal. The fit and finish is far below that of a Big Dog. At to that, the hardtail frame and the uncomfortable riding position of the OCC bike, there is no comparison.

The company i now work for was contracted to move all their machinery when they moved to that new huge shop. While i had nothing to do with that job I had a couple friends work it and i was told the same thing. Lots of stored bikes that look nice on tv but were just not quality builds. Oil leaks on most and fit and finish was horrible. Flashy bikes that werent designed to actually ride lol

They now have franchises in Australia, talk about a crap product.
I was in Melbourne to witness the unvailing of one bike, my 21 year old son with no experience could have done as good a job.
Runs and thin bits in the paint.
Weld spatter.
Daggy looking welds............. i would be worried about what qualifacations the welder had and what penetration in that weld.
HD controls.
Tail and stop light pop riveted to the back guard..............for $40K WTF.

Not for me.
Becides they are a couple of deadset dick heads..................IMO.

But isn't that the case with most of these "custom" bikes you see on TV and in magazines?

I'm not big on the OCC personalities, and I've never seen more than two or three minutes of a show (while flipping channels) but I'll play "devils advocate".

First of all, I'm not all that familiar with Manitowoc, but from what I gather it is a crane company. Therefore isn't it somewhat unfair to post a pic of a chopper made for a crane company, that has a crane theme to it, and use that as an example of their work? It's a possibility that ideas were given to OCC by people from the crane company, and as a point to ponder how many good ideas can you come up with for a crane "themed" chopper.

As I alluded to in an earlier post, I'm not much on any of the radically themed choppers you see today in most of your motorcycle magazines and television. Personally I think there is a happy medium between customizing, style, and practicality and the "custom" motorcycles I see today go far past that compromise.

Over the past 10 years I've had a subscription to just about every motorcycle magazine you can imagine, and I would say at least 80% to 90% of the Custom motorcycles that get into those magazines I wouldn't ride no more than a few feet.

Now for the record I did like that bike made by Rodney's Cycles in Little Rock, but for everyone I do like, there are dozens that have no practical purpose for riding whatsoever.

Just my dos centavos.
