After talking to the US rep and A engineer from the UK in sturgis this year face to face about these issues, and not seeing results , its apparent they dont care about us. They were invited to come on the forum and discuss these issues but declined and I assume just hope we go away. Well my thoughts are we should, right straight to metzler. Life is to short to trust it to sencond rate tires.

Hi all, should I be concerned with this Avon front tire also? I have only around 6200 miles on the bike and as far as I know these are the original tires.

If the tread has split and the cord is showing.....Don't ride it, replace it. Send it back to Avon
I 100% agree,, a friend of mine I worked with before the plant closed down dumped his bike, not a dog. Broke his leg in two places, six ribs and his share of the road rash. He is still searching for decent employment and had no medical insurance. He is :job:My little brother when to get the bike and trailer it home. He told me he was running wore out tires on a wet road. It just got from under him as he slowed down to stop.

Replace jacked up tires even if you get the bill. It is better than possibly leaving your family to have to deal with something much worse. My last road rash memory isn't pleasant either.

Roger that! Thanks for the help and the info. Will replace both tires. Metzlers or Dunlops which do y'all recommend? I looked for Michelins but could not find a 300....35R18

Just purchased my front tire Avon venom "X" size 120/70 - 21 for my 2006 pitbull. purchased it at the J&P cycle store in Daytona beach on sept 29th. I had it installed today at my local bike shop. when I picked it up, I noticed I had 5 splits on the tread, about 1 inch up from the sidewall on the tread itself. called back to J&P and ordered another one just like it. (Might have screwed up there). The production date code on the tire is 4911. I think this means it was made in the 49 th week of 2011. any ideas on a good replacement brand tire for a 2006 pitbull? 120/70-21. I just bought the avon tire because it was what it come from the factory and was well pleased with it.Any ideas would be grea. Thanks.

I wonder if the problem has to do with the tires freezing?
In the car world I have seen this happen to max performance summer tires.
They can get rock hard when they freeze and then they start to split.
Just an idea.
I have the original venoms on my 08 mutt and no splits at all.

Plus my Suzuki has venoms on it that are older than that.
Both bikes stay above freezing in the winter in my garage.

could it be the shop way over-inflated the tire to seat it on the wheel and the sidewall split? just a thought. that tire is too new to be dry rotting.

I too am looking at new tires. I currently run a Avon Venom on back and a Metzeler ME880 on front. I need a bit more ground clearance and was told the Avon tires flatten out on bottom when rolling alot more than a radial tire would. And at 65 mph the center of the tire grows almost an inch in height. This credible bike builder told me to run a radial tire for more stability & ground clearance. Dunlop Elite 3 to be exact. Nevertheless..I'm about to shop radial tires.

Was cleaning my rear wheel when I noticed a chunk of rubber had come out of my tire, 300, near the side. I looked further a saw where the tire looked like it was splitting. Horizontal splits. I only have about 700 miles on this tire. I bought it from Jake Wilson. I haven't contacted Jake Wilson, but I have emailed Avon Tyre.
