:bang:FYI, I bought the 40-0500-VT White 0-60 Pound Oil Pressure Gauge for Harley Big Twin & XL Sportster and it didn't last to and from work (approximately 28 miles). The rubber plug and fluid are gone and it showed 0 psig by the time I got to work. It still reads bouncing between 25 and 30 lbs but I will be trying the Autometer #2173 0-60 lbs #649025 next.

Well good thing is the AutoMeter doesn't have the black plug!
Well this is odd I ordered the #2173 Autometer and I assumed it wasn't liquid filled and didn't have any plug? I have a big blue plug on the top, did they package the wrong gauge? Or are these still liquid filled with a plug?

I got one from ERT Products, it was liquid filled it and poof plug was gone within 30 miles. He sent me out a new one and looks like he put a high temp silicone over the plug on the replacement. Not sure that will hold forever but it does have a 1 year warranty. I decided to grab this Autometer as I assumed it wasn't liquid filled and wanted on hand when my current finally craps out on me.

Yup, I ordered one too from the same place and they did send me exactly that same one as in your picture, I was also confused when I saw the liquid and the plastic plug

I have not install it yet, just waiting to go home on my next R&R and then will see how it works.

I have a question regarding the adapters... the gauge into the 45 degree bit and the 45 degree bit into the bit with the O ring that goes into the crank case... them only screw into each other about 3-4 millimeters... I tried applying more force with tools but they don't screw further than 5 mm... Do I have to screw them using BRUTE FORCE???? or are these bits wrongly made, bad quality?

I've gone through 2 autometer gauges (non liquid) in 14,000 miles. JP Cycles P/N 740-795Price $32.99. Right now i'm trying an Accel liquid filled. I have about 1,000 miles so far and all good.

I would be happy with 7k miles out of a $30 part. Not happy with 30 miles and another at 200 miles (note these are from ERT products not Autometer). I checked J&P and they state that P/N 740-795 = Manufacturer Part Number: 2173

That's the same one I got WTF gives here

I sent a email to AutoMeter will see what they say and report back. I also asked their opinion for a 0-60 PSI gauge in high temperature applications.

So just recieved the email back from AutoMeter. Looks like we are shit out of luck. The 2173 are now a liquid filled gauge, looks like they are getting out of the dry gauge business.

Hello Eric,

The 2173 gauge was once a dry gauge. Within the past year or so we have phased the dry gauges out and they are now liquid filled. Unfortunately we do not offer a direct mount gauge that is not liquid filled. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you,
Kevin

I went with the black Autometer. Arrived today and took a whopping 5 minutes to install. Works great and gives me peace of mind:D Thank to Gasman for the "How to" and to the rest of you for the helpful tips:up:
Could you please post where to get this with contact info. THANKS

I still have my Autometer #2173 0-60 lbs installed. It works but bounces around like the beginning. I can't remember if I filled it with glycerine or not because I have a bottle on the shelf and I refilled the old Harley gauge when it blew out. Both gauges have glycerine in them with self sealing tape around the oil fill plug to keep the glycerine in. I think you need a glycerine filled one to dampen the vibrations.

Nuke did you use any high temp tape or sealer? I've been through 2 now and the 2nd one had a bit of high temp sealer on it. It worked for only about 250 miles, just need to find something that will work even better. :flag:

Might try this next says its good to 600.

Also, where did you get a bottle of glycerine? I could use it to replace the 2 gauges will be cheaper to find out what works than buying a new gauge each time.

Eric,

I don't remember where I purchased the glycerine from but I could send you some since I have a big bottle and don't plan on using all of it.

The tape I used was Loctite Insulating Sealing Wrap which I bought at the ROT Rally. The red matched my bike and I wrapped it around the gauge to keep the fill plug in.

I would google it. You can read about it at the two following links:
