Oil Pressure Gauge

That is a good point. And maybe Ray, Al or Sul can chime in too. The press gauge is a dual purpose fix.

One if your oil light comes on in the speedo and you look down at the press gauge and see press.. you know its not really running with no oil. It has happened.

Second, press and temp are directly related. The higher the temp, the thinner the oil gets and less press you have. So I would either one would do just fine.

Third, not sure about this, but being you already have the tappet screen in there and you would need a metal conducting stick in the oil to properly conduct the temp to a gauge. I dont think you can do it anyway.

That being said, I believe some of the dogs can get oil temp dip sticks for their oil tanks, like HD does.

I have an oil temp guage on mine, I'll take a pic later. It's on the feed side of the pump, on the line coming off the tank. It gives you tank temp, just like the dipstick does. It's a flowthrough type, I got it from Harley Parts Motorcycle Accessories from CAS4, and I'm really happy with it. Been running it since last spring, no leaks or problems, and it was pretty easy to install. I'd like to do a pressure guage too, but I was reading that our oil pressure is so low the guage will read close to 0 most of the time?

Nope thats a cheepe! IMO here:White Black

I went with the black Autometer. Arrived today and took a whopping 5 minutes to install. Works great and gives me peace of mind:D Thank to Gasman for the "How to" and to the rest of you for the helpful tips:up:

Mine went bad too, (the black faced one) after about 6 months. It just stays pegged to the top even when off... Oh well, nice idea when it worked...

Just the slip over the filter cooler. I think it's just the vibration factor and without a pig tail these gauges won't last.

Well something interesting happened last night while riding to work and at work. I noticed while running at about 50mph that my oil pressure was low. Running about 15psi depending on throttle and such. Then at the the light it was down to 2-5. WTF.

Get to my station and when I shut down the motor I realize what's up when the needle drops to the left side of the dead stop pin aka about -10 or -15 psi instead of the zero it should be at. The needle got jacked somehow.

Called up Auto Meter and told them what's up. They are having me send it in. They will either fix it or replace it free of charge.

Great Customer service if you ask me. Well, as long as they deliever what they say. Will keep you all advised. For now, the tappet cap is back in.

That's what mine did and I sent it back and they replaced it. So now I have the same problem waiting to happen. I just ordered a liquid filled from J&P and we'll see how that goes.

You need a pigtail or liquid filled to take the vibs, we have no room for the tail.

That sucks Chris, but at least they're going to take care of the problem for you.

Kick - I guess I'm a little slow this morning but what are you talking about a pig tail?

shit I can't believe that I have the same one that I bought from Vickie that she said to send her back and she would replace it because it might fail due to the rubber plug coming out. Its been awhile and that plug is still intact and everything is working fine, so if it aint broke don't fix it.

I didn't know anybody else that had the problem with these Auto meter ones Alicat.

Alhall... yeah that's crazy. That blue one I had didn't last more than 12miles... but you got yours on for tons of miles...

The problem with the liqued filled ones is what Ray told me in this thread... that those plugs can pop or melt out.
