Rear Brake Rotor Carrier

I have been having some rear brake heating issues. I noticed it the last few days when putting my disc lock on the rear brake. It's been getting damn hot!

So today we get it on the lift and spin the wheel and that rotor was way out of true. We pulled off the wheel and got it on the table and then ran into trouble trying to get the rotor bolts out. Seems over the years removing them over and over the head on one bolt stripped out finally. To much loctite I guess.
So we try tapping it out and the extractor breaks off inside!!
So out with the grinder then dremal to cut a grove in it so we could use the inpact driver.

Got it out finally.

That was when we noticed what was wrong with my rotor carrier. It was broke. So now doing some research trying to find a new one so I can get the bike back up and running. Looks like I found one from All American Wheels for now.

WSW is in the process of designing new rotor buttons and more importantly carriers that are designed to releive all the pressure off the buttons. So till we get them done I'll use this generic one.

I won't be riding for a few days!!!

My bike has over 91,000 miles now and its getting old. :D

Not sure what year they did this. Can't remember if my 03 had them or not.

We will be making new buttons soon that will be of better quality and working on heat treating/hardening them for better durability.

I replaced mine with a solid chrome rotor, same design as the orignal, for less than what it would have cost to replace the buttons.

Never had much luck with extractors we had one break off on a underwater spm removal in pearl harbor that took almost 8 days to drill out. What a bitch that was!

Paul, i sprnt most of my career working with 3200's :)

Were you at Hickam?

Well I spent 3 tours in Hawaii, started out at the pearl harbor shipyard 2001-04 transferred to seal delivery vehicle team 1 in pearl city, then off to Hickman mobile diving and salvage unit on 07-10. The shipyard was maintenance and repair mainly subs, then on to sdv team 1 riding 688 and certified the ssgn class. Just hit 19 years man time is flying

Ray, my '03 has a solid rotor with the "Mad Clown" design. Performance Machine doesn't have the design anymore and I can't find the rotors anywhere. Tampa Big Dog had one rear rotor and LIFERIDER needed it so I let him know and he bought it. Any chance you guys may resurrect the design and make them? Maybe as a rotor carrier option?

Hey Ray, you may want to check the caliper also if you haven't done so already. The seals sometimes will wear and will not pull the piston back and allow the pad to contact the rotor all the time and make them heat up.

We'll be doing the rotor carriers in different designs JR. We're still working this and working hard on getting them started. We will be using better aluminum and doing some changes to the carriers that will relieve all the stress off the buttons. Keep checking on us "WSW", we'll be producing them soon.

Yeah, I rebuilt the caliper a few months ago. It needed it too!
