Can anyone tell me what H-D gas caps will replace my stock BD caps? I have a 2004 Mastiff, split tanks one right thread, one left handed. I ordered a set online that was for a H-D dyna but they were to big in diameter to go into my paintsavers. Thanks in advance. Homer.

Welcome to the wonderful world of BD or as I like to call it "who in the hell made this part?". Unless you take a chance and take out the paint savers (which sometimes works out well and not so well other times), Landmark is going to be the only place you can get them. I needed one a couple of months ago and spent a couple of days contacting old BD dealers and found one on a shelf and it cost me $40 so I'd cut my losses and get the Amazon ones and throw the saver away.

I'm thinking the same. For $46 shipped just get the new caps and throw the saver in the trash.

If you play around with the paint saver even with the tool some people have done a number to their clear coat and needed new paint. I would only recommend removing the paint saver if your thinking about new paint, then its a no brainer. In my opinion $46 isn't worth the fucking hassle on that paint saver.

Anyone have a wrench?
I can make one up for you if you want? Not that big a deal. Some aluminum stock a couple of dowel pins......done. Lemme know.

Hell I'll stamp it Big Dog Biker Forum and we can just pass it around to whoever needs it....

You can always call Landmark (LANDMARK RENEGADE GAS CAPS) and ask them if they will just sell you a gas cap. One thing to consider, the Landmark caps have plastic threads which swell when used with gas that contains ethanol, which has caused 99.999% of all cap problems. Check old threads here, I seem to recall some folks either made or had made aluminum threads which would adapt to the original caps and solved the swelling problem.

Called Landmark, they said they have not made these for the BD bikes for almost 6 years now. BD required them to have a 3psi breather cap. They are looking into it and will call me tomorrow. They also said BD used an epoxy when installing the Paintsaver, making it difficult to just back out. Funny though, they never heard anything about the cap threads "swelling" due to the ethanol.

Good news guys! Jamie at Landmark called and said they can replace just the threads in each cap that are held in place by an allen screw. They are making them with a thinner thread which should solve all the tight cap problems. $5.00 for each thread. 800-497-0312 ask for Jamie.

I had taken my caps out and paint protectors out to get pop up caps which was a mistake it really was a bitch getting the protectors out cause like said they were JB welded in or epoxy and it took everything i had to loosen them I broke two tools to take them off and once I went to put the new pop up caps in they were loose and sloppy. I also have talked to Jamie at Landmark and he is sending me new thread inserts also, so as you can guess I have went back to the standard caps and paint protectors I only got one paint chip from taking the old ones off but it was covered under the new one, thank god.....
