Yeah.....Ohmster said something about if the battery gets a weak cell...or if its just getting weak...which drops the voltage...the speedo won't work....but after you ride it....it get freshend up and then works again....I noticed this on my scoot the 4 times I rode it when it was cold out side....like mid 30'smy speedo goes out sometimes - rev counter lights up but needle and mileometer doesn't work - If Iturn the key off and back on again then its fine
I was told if the battery drops below a certain voltage....the speedo won't work....mine froze up on me a few times....when it was 36 degree's out ....but after a couple of miles......it started to work again.....thats one of the reasons I went to a 310CCA Interstate Battery..![]()
yeah I'm not sure thats my problem though - I always got the tender on it and as soon as I get going and see it aint working I switch off (after a couple of yards) switch on again and its fine - can happen on hot and cold days - sorry Steel - I'm not trying to hijack your thread here but it must be all related
it did...plus I always put it on the tender too.....it has done it about 3- 4 times when I rode in the colder weather.....I would go a few miles down the road.....shut the bike off...then start it up again and then my speedo would work fine.....I mention this to Ohmster and he said my battery was probably starting to get weak....and then he suggested the bigger CCA battery like the Interstate or HD one....I went with Interstate like Jake has because my Dealer is also a Interstate dealer too...dave- that makes sense but i'm just wondering why or how the battery didn't charge back up during the rides.:loony:
thanx for the input guys.
I will let you know when I get my scoot back in a few weeks.....did it fix the problem Dave?
Steel...check your pm......no such thing as a stupid fucken question....glad we can help ya...you guys rock!been kind of reluctant to ask questions in the past for fear of asking a stupid fucken question. i feel a little better knowing the problem wasn't the obvious. thanx again:up:
thankx for the info dave!
the thing about it is, is mine never came back on after a stop/restart. just quit working all together for nearly 5 mths.
yeah, no shit. it's bad enough without a gas gauge but then the speedo goes!.............. kind of like the blind leading the blindno problem........dam nearly 5 months....:bang:

Lee, I had the same issue as you and after it happening a few times, I think I figured something out. When you go to crank it, wait for the needle to zero back out for a couple of seconds then hit run and then start. I haven't had it happen since I've been using that method. Maybe or maybe not but it doesn't hurt anything and seems to have worked for me.yeah I'm not sure thats my problem though - I always got the tender on it and as soon as I get going and see it aint working I switch off (after a couple of yards) switch on again and its fine - can happen on hot and cold days - sorry Steel - I'm not trying to hijack your thread here but it must be all related
I have noticed that when I let the speedometer needle come back to zero, everything works OK; but if I do not wait I will be stopping shortly to cycle the power to get the speedo to work.Lee, I had the same issue as you and after it happening a few times, I think I figured something out.
