New member.. craving a BD

Hello all,

Am new to BDB and would like to hear opinions about a 2002 Husky. I have had numerous bikes of different makes and models in the past, and just sold a BMW K1200 tourer. Getting old and long trips no longer have the appeal they did in the past. Besides I am a DIY type and hated having to go into the dealership for minor things, because only they could re-program the bike electronics. Anyway, I still enjoy poker runs and bar hopping with the HD riders, and was looking for another cruiser. I found a 2002 Big Dog Husky with only 4000 miles and can't stop thinking about it. It is absolutely beautiful. I was haggling over the price with the guy, (wants $10k) and started searching internet for more info. Found that BD went under and was wondering if anyone thinks owning a BD will become a problem in the near future as for parts , etc., or if the Husky is reliable enough for a good DIY to own and keep repaired with aftermarket parts (if available that is..) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard ez... I believe most of the Husky parts for that year may very well be a majority of Harley Parts. I don't see an issue with parts...I'm sure someone will chime in and agree to disagree if I'm steering you in the wrong direction. :hi::hi:

Welcome EZ, fear not Big Dog Motorcycles production closed, but they still have a parts business open and besides so many of the parts are from other manufactures, the drive drain S&S and Baker and hell most of my modifications have always been getting rid of a bigdog part and replacing with an off the shelf after market replacement. Not certain of the older bikes like you are looking at but I imagine it is about the same. GET ONE!

If your pulse rate goes up with you look at that Husky, what the hell. Buy it! :)

One of the guys has this for his tag line "Life's too short to ride an ugly bike". I agree!

The earlier years are have far less BDM proprietary stuff. These days, that's not a bad thing. Got an -02 Pitbull. Love it.

dont let the idea of not being able to get parts stop you from getting a big dog, like everyone said, not an issue, welcome from fla

If you've got the fever, no Harley or surrrogate will be able to put out the flames. If the bike has been well maintained and you're a little mechanically inclined, shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.

I definitely appreciate all the response from everyone, especially so quick. Now I have no reason to doubt the purchase... as if any negative response was going to stop me anyway... the bike has me hooked.

Pull the trigger and get it .... if you have any tech questions or need some info from the shop manual ... let me know.

I wish I had more money.
You will not have an issue finding parts for 90% of the bike. Or better even. The bike is basically a Harley softail. Where do you live. If you were to ever have an issue most times than not some one in your area will stop by and help when and if needed. The best thing for that year of bike is the electrical issues showed up year models later. I say jump on it and don't look back c

Husky used a lot of softtail parts. Get the bike you won't regret. Haggle him down 10k is a little steep.
