And the saga continues....

Got my wheel spacers back from my buddy Al. It centers the wheel PERFECTLY but now the caliper is both too close to the fork leg and off centered to the caliper. So we have 3 options...

  1. cut in the radious of the caliper bracket that bolts to the leg
  2. cut the tabs down where the caliper mounts on that said bracket
  3. shave the mouting surface where the rotor mounts to the hub effectly moving the rotor inwards away from the leg.

Option 1 will take alot of meat off said bracket and the radious would be hard to maintain on such a long piece.

Option 2 still doesn't increase the clearance between the rotor and the fork leg which is WAY too close for comfort.

Option 3 is the best and what will be done. A flat cut into the hub and we have plenty of tolerances.

So we broke down the front wheel so the hub could get machined.

I will have to had the fork brace, fork brace mounts, fender mounts, wheel spacers, and hub all machined to get this front end together. What a PIA!!!

Sense we are already making another trip to the master machiner Steve we might as well make a new mount for the wave headlight. I am sick of messing with the POS stock one. So we quickly took measurements and designed our own to be made. So once done if anybody else wants to use this headlight, Steve will have the design and could sell a mount for it.

:bang:  :bang:

But I must take my hat off to my buddy Al, for he has been the biggest help with this machining stuff and general wrench help when it came to installing the heart of the beast.

must be a bit of an eye opener - I guess you don't think of all the knock on effects of making what might seem a fairly straight forward change has at the time

Thats why they call it a custom. If you aren't grinding, machining, and tweakin here or there it's just a factory job. Good call on the headlight bracket. The last thing you want is a headlight that doesn't stay put.
