YOU Need a Chain Rear Drive NeilI like what you set out to do.
I wish the first guy was the only one you ever needed and you got to enjoy the pleasure from the first crack of the throttle.
I am on my 3rd transmission on just motor alone.
Baker said they are designed to be quiet per BDM spec's and for about 100 hp. Around 120 hp they just start coming apart. Tried to get them to put in some straight cut gears to help hold the power but were not able to accommodate me due to the design of the case. Said I should modify it to hold a Harley transmission that already has them in it but the primary would have to be replaced too. Snapped the belt in half last weekend and been through 5 rear tires. Do I want to de-tune my bike..Hell No.
Man I love this stuff.....

Yes S&S does make a 6 speed Transmission. As far as being "better" than a BAKER...well thats argumentative and I dont argue with forum members.I read on the forum that S&S makes a trans. Don't know anything about it, but anything may be better than the baker sh*t speed!

X2....i've got the 330 rear tire...Vince,
how are you setting up a chain drive on the 05's and up?
Very good question.....Vince, thanks for the offer as ill sure to be hitting you up on stuff. I was just wondering how you find the space in the stock pulley cover. I have chain on an 05 and had to do some adjusting to get it to clear.
A up close pic of the sproket/cover would be nice!Very good question.....
The *underside* bolt (of the three)on the clutch accuation cover right after the area where the clutch cable goes into the housing is "close" to the underside of the chain returning to the rear wheel-close mind you -but not dangerous or in danger of actually hitting the underside cover/bolt stud area unless the chain has more than 4 inches of slack (up & down) and on a rigid thats not an issue.
Nor would it be an issue even on a softail because that'd be alotta slack (up & down 4 ") simply because the diamater of the Transmission Sprocket is smaller than a Transmission Belt Pulley in diamater .
Thats the only concern I had and it's never been a issue to worry about.
but You asked a good question about a concern I encountered on the 1st install of a chain that I had completely forgotten about.
Contact or call me ANYTIME and If I can help you Out I'd do so gladly.:2thumbs:
Vince
I hope these photo's shed some light on the topic.....*ANY* input or opinion is appreciated.A up close pic of the sproket/cover would be nice!
Thanks V
