Bike dying for no reason?

I was out riding today and for no reason the bike died, I pulled over and shut the ignition off, turned it back on and fired it up, it continued to do this all the way home, I called the dealer he told me to check the battery terminals, and the ignition switch, I checked both and even bypassed the switch, but it still does it! Anybody had a similar problemf? and if so any help would be great, I searched around for any wires that might be shorting out but could not find any.

Check the simple things first. One item that caused a lot of problems was the EPA check valve in the gas tank cap. Its hex shaped and a lot of them caused a vacum, thus the bike would cut off from lack of fuel. Ride the bike and if it starts to die loosen the gas cap typically on the right hand side. If the bike runs its the simple check valve. Either way its good to remove this as they have been a problem to many including myself.

It could be the pet cock or the filter in side the gas tank. it also could be the wires did you change them or maybe you need to make sure you get the right ones hope this was a help

Thanks guys but its not from lack of fuel, it is the ignition is just shutting down, just like if you turned the key off, I really appreciate the help though.

Are you running a big key ring with lots of other stuff on it?

I had a leather big dog key ring, nothing else on it, I bypassed the switch and it still does it, Raywood do you know if these engines have a auto shut down if the oil level gets low, I know some of my equipment at work does that so I was just wondering, thanks for the help.

Are you sure your gas tank is venting. When it dies does it just shut off (like electrically) or does it die likes it's out of gas?

It just dies like you turned the ignition off, the whole electrical system goes down, then I turn the key off and back on and it starts right back up? I don't know what it could be? if it was a short you would thing that it would just stay off, right?

Next time it does it you need to pull the seat and let us know what lits are lit. But mine has shut off like that before and BDM has plugged into the ignition and showed that it shut down and ignition switch was worn.

Ray, so are you saying that right when it does it and the ignition is still off, look at the lights on the EHC and see which ones are lit up? I looked at them after I turn the key back on and the yellow is lit and the green is flashing.

Yeah, before you turn the key off or touch anything else pull the seat and see if any lits are lit on the EHC. Also check the BDM Troubleshooting guide thats posted in the Tech section for more info on this. It's a good chart that you should copy and put in your manual

Thanks Ray, I will do that, as far as a manuel, I don't have one, never got it with the bike when I bought it, anyway I will check the troubleshooting guide also, hey Ray, what do you think of just directly running power to the coil from the battery to see if it will run like that? if it does then I would know it's the EHC, right?

Sounds almost like one of those intermittent plug deals like one of the othe guys just dealt with. I think he ended up zip tying his plugs to the ehc make sure that they kept good contact.

He would start it with the seat off and jiggle the plugs around the ehc. One particular plug caused the bike to die. He put zip ties around the plug and ehc to keep them tight.

Like Ray said it's going to be one of two circuts
1) Fuel
2) Electrical

When it dies and the key is still on, can you access the "EHC"
to view the "LED" fault indicator lights ?

here is a picture of the standard "EHC" with 14 LED lites ...The upgraded "EHC" has 18 LED lites
